West Ham starlet’s sale could ‘facilitate’ Manuel Pellegrini signing another player

At the end of last month, Mundo Deportivo reported West Ham United are interested in Barcelona’s Andre Gomes, and the Hammers starlet Domingos Quina, who is a target for the La Liga winners, can help the London club in signing the Portuguese international.

On August 3rd, we covered a report from TV3, who claimed the midfielder is ‘very well regarded’ by Manuel Pellegrini and the Premier League outfit have submitted a ‘firm offer’ for the player.

Mundo Deportivo now talks about the Catalan club’s interest in Quina, who was part of Portugal’s squad that won the European U19 championship.

The Spanish champions extensively monitored the former Benfica and Chelsea academy player and are looking to incorporate him into their academy.

The report claims the interest of Barcelona in the 18-year-old matches West Ham’s interest in Gomes, so that one operation could ‘facilitate’ the other.

Mundo also mentions only Valencia and Arsenal are the two clubs who have taken steps to sign the Barcelona midfielder. Despite interest from several clubs, Gomes has not managed to find a new homes and his latest injury blow will only come as a setback in his transfer pursuit.

After the end of the last season, Andre Gomes informed Barcelona he wants to leave the Camp Nou.

Failing to find a new club, Ernesto Valverde included him in the preseason tour to the US, but the player had to return to Europe after suffering an injury setback that will keep him out of action for four weeks.

Sport now claims West Ham United are interested in the midfielder and have been informed first hand about his state. The Hammers are keen on securing his services and ‘want the deal’ before the transfer window in England closes on August 9th.

The Premier League club will not pay a transfer fee, instead they will take the Portuguese international on loan which will also include a purchase option. The La Liga winners want the 25-year-old to join Manuel Pellegrini’s side, but the player would prefer a return to Valencia, who only want to sign him on straight loan.

Barcelona have made it clear to Gomes that he cannot join the Spanish club on loan and are pressuring him to move to England. Sport believes the ex-Benfica man’s future will be at West Ham.

West Ham 1-0 Angers: Javier Hernandez on target for Manuel Pellegrini's side as Felipe Anderson features in pre-season victory

Javier Hernandez strike saw West Ham finish pre-season with a win
West Ham gave run outs to a host of their new signings against Angers in Austria
Michail Antonio missed an inviting chance to double the lead for West Ham

By Jeorge Bird

West Ham continued their preparations for the new campaign with a 1-0 victory over Angers in Austria on Friday, with Javier Hernandez on the scoresheet.

Manuel Pellegrini's side proved too strong for their opponents to cope with, and Hernandez found the net in the 23rd minute as he found the top corner after latching onto Aaron Cresswell's cross.

West Ham started the game in positive fashion and almost took the lead early on when Marko Arnautovic found Felipe Anderson, but the new signing saw his effort saved by Mathieu Michel.

Antonio later tried his luck, but Michel eventually managed to gather the ball despite fumbling the initial effort.

West Ham get their Premier League campaign underway on August 12 when they face Liverpool away and they have produced some encouraging displays in the lead-up to that fixture.

This result followed on from a 1-1 draw with Nantes, which West Ham won on penalties, and the Hammers also beat Ipswich and Aston Villa.

Against Angers, Pellegrini started with a 4-4-2 formation, with Hernandez and Arnautovic, intriguingly, deployed alongside each other.

The system worked well, with West Ham causing numerous problems for their opponents, and Pellegrini then made a change at half-time as he brought on Issa Diop in place of fellow new arrival Fabian Balbuena.

Antonio should have doubled West Ham's advantage in the second period but he blazed over from close range.

Despite Angers improving a little, West Ham managed to keep their lead intact and will now be full of confidence when the real action gets underway.

West Ham slap legal threat down as agents get involved in transfer business

Pedro Obiang to Sampdoria has been a soap opera in the Italian media for over a week.

West Ham been accused of changing their price for the midfielder, and there’s been a constant stream of information pushed towards the Italian press.

One day the deal can be described as nearly being done and then everything is rolled back again, with accusing fingers being pointed the way of the Hammers.

There will be at least a little bias in the reporting, making West Ham seem the bad guys, but now everything has been turned on its head.

Calciomercato report West Ham have threatened legal action after intermediaries started meddling in a potential transfer. It’s brought everything to an abrupt halt.

Before this latest twist, Calciomercato say there had been an outline agreement between the Premier League club and Sampdoria, with Obiang himself thought to be keen to make the move to Genoa.
