Re: Get a grip
ANYONE that attempts to get us from years of hoofball with a glimpse of football whilst Payet took them all on for us deserves not to be slaughtered after one game, for me he deserves 2 seasons AT LEAST if it's attacking possession football he wants to get back here.

As he was on a budget i guess there's plenty of players he still has to make do with and also give us hope of gelling a total overhaul bit by bit.

The one question i'd ask is who in that team he picked yesterday would you have got rid of over someone that's already gone, as you can't dump all of them.

Re: Get a grip
Another point. If our management/players panicked as much as our fans (not this thread, necessarily) we'd be long gone from the Premier League.

And one more. The media loves HYSTERIA. League table was published 5pm Saturday. What's the fucking point? "Comfortable mid table" teams... hadn't even played!

We'll learn and we'll be fine. I have high hopes.

Re: Get a grip
Same at City, took Pep a season to sort them out to what he wanted.

How many clubs have such huge changes and nail it within a couple of months, let alone ONE game against one of the best teams in Europe?

Agreed. I think they'll come good.

Re: Get a grip
This is a small point but Klopp did NOT immediately improve Liverpool. 2nd under Rodgers. They went backwards under Klopp at first. Long term, he's got it right... backed by a massive spend.

I have a grip. Nasty lesson yesterday, but when it comes to the new WHU: Patience. We've got one of our most doomed games of the season out the way and it went as it pretty much always does. Onwards. Upwards.

I will be very happy with mid table and no relegation fears. Might be boring as it was under BFS one season except hopefully MP will have a go at cups and play a more entertaining style/

We bashed them up 3 times that season iirc. Twice under klopp. Basically what yesterday told me is the money we have spent will keep us where we were pretty much. To improve drastically we needed to spend double, thats the facts of modern football. We'll be ok in mid table I would think.

Re: Get a grip
It's always relative and it's natural to be super sensitive at the beginning of the season after waiting to see our new players but when we signed all these players we said they will take time to gel.

We also need to get used to the system. People have criticised the high line BUT at least there is a system there to play in place, more than we fucking had at the beginning of last season. And the players will adapt and will get better at it.

But it will take time, we all said this in the summer. Every fucking season, wait for 8 games to start making judgements. Table doesn't change much all season after eight games, let's see where we are then.

Liverpool are one of the best teams in Europe and could easily win the league this year and will royally rodger a few teams this season, especially at Anfield and especially early on as they know they lost the league last years because of a slow start.

You have hit the proverbial "nail on the head" mate. Hopefully MP will change it if after a few games it continues to fail. Moyes worked it out so I assume MP will. Its why Moyes switched to 3 at the back and Bilic was forced to too.

I am sick of saying it as many others are. We did not address the lack of "legs" in midfield to play a system of high lines etc. 4 at the back alone makes us vulnerable to the counter as the midfield has to have numbers to compensate for its lack of overall mobility.

All that said, if MP can get everyone in the team to work for 90 mins and track back consistently and have them super fit ( Antonio looked knackered after 30 mins and stopped tracking 2nd half for example) we will improve... I think/hope

Re: Get a grip
Yes but the thing is Claret unless you have the same quality throughout your team the likes of Liverpool will toss your basic level tactics aside if they are on their game...which they were.

When will people get the grasp of this? THEY spent TWO THIRDS OF OUR BUDGET...........just on a keeper in what was probably our best window for decades if they can gel.

Re: Get a grip
If you play a high line you have to press, this is basic level 1 coaching badge stuff.

Re: Get a grip
The manner of the defeat was what infuriated me. I don't mind us losing, after all we have lots of practice at it, but we looked exactly the same as so many other games, no pressure on the opposition when they have the ball and no movement when we had the ball. That's got fuck all to do with gelling as everyone seems to be saying at the moment.

Gelling has fuck all to do with work rate from every individual. The scousers looked fitter, faster and lets be honest they didnt need to get out of second gear to beat us. They just galloped into oceans of space, took as long as they liked on the ball and generally didn't need to break sweat. The static, slow and undermanned midfield were woeful.

I did not expect to win but I did expect a unit that put pressure on the opposition and some semblance of organisation to allow us to at least make their goalkeeper make A save. He went off without so much as a sweat stain on his shirt.

Not knicker wetting just the same old West Ham team getting spanked yet again by the scousers. I expected a narrow defeat and positives to be taken moving forward. There were NO positives at all to be taken from that performance.

Re: Get a grip
my concern is that i saw no real difference between yesterday & some of the rubbish served up by Bilic in his second & third seasons.
no pressure on the ball, no movement when we do have the ball etc etc.

as prob mentioned a million times, that high line with no pressure on the ball is suicide.

All I have heard, seen and read is people commenting on what they saw but in general its pretty much "Beaten by a better team" and onwards and upwards. I haven't seen any people getting wet knickers.

Re: Get a grip
As always there are multiple factors involved and it largely depends on what you believe to be the most important. Some will say coaching, tactics and the understanding / motivation of players makes all the difference.

The other view is that its less about systems and tactics but simply having the quality players and crucially the right blend of them.

I have little doubt we will get better at holding a high line and playing a more expansive style etc. but continue to believe, like so many, that we did not recruit the right type and quality of player in a couple of areas.

My expectation is fairly modest. I do not want us to be flirting with relegation every season and am looking for a middle and upwards position for most of the season along with trying to play to feet. With the recruits you would think that is possible and it will take 5 - 10 games to really tell but I am not sure MP is even close yet to ensuring we are not going to concede a bucket load of goals again. For all the good work going forward we cannot ship on average 2 goals a game again this season.

Bournemouth will be interesting. They will press and look to counter which has been our Achilles heel for many seasons. Our recruitment did not address it IMHO. We shall see though. Would love to be proved wrong and often have been before :-)

I hope that Yarmalenko gets game time as I think him and Arnie will link up well. Anderson showed how good he will be, but Masuaku, lets hope that was a bad day at the office. But this high line defending, not sure it should be used against the likes of Liverpool and City as we saw yesterday Liverpool were queuing up to put it in the back of the net. It might work against shit like Cardiff but against Salah and Mane wtf!
