How do we sort out our two bob cunt wanker defence then?!...
Most goals conceded last year.

Two bob under Bilic as well.

Nine goals conceded already.

Just how do we sort out these two bob cunt wankers that claim to be professional footballers specialising in the art of defending?!

What's the BORING OLD FAT WALRUS CUNT up to?!

Just a throwaway suggestion but how about Diop in a defensive midfield role? Looked full of potential tonight and was calm on the ball, looks powerful and probably has more pace than our other DM options. Ok it was Wimbledon but he is young enough to learn the role with Rice, Ogbonna and Balbuena as CD options.

Eusebiovic,

I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment - especially once it became apparent that the likes of Wolves could be in the mix to sign Dendoncker (and did in the end) notwithstanding the somewhat special circumstances of their ownership and the fact I actually wasn't that impressed when I saw him in the World Cup, but given that he's been talked up seemingly endlessly recently as a top player. Maybe Sanchez will turn out to be the masterstroke that no one else saw coming. But it does seem odd, I agree.

But as regards Strootman, in all fairness he is a special case. There's no way he'd be going for 22m in today's market if it wasn't for his injury problems - he only started playing again regularly 2 seasons ago after nearly two years out having been injured (2 or 3 times if memory serves) at a point when he was very much seen as the Next Big Thing, and being told he'd pretty much never play again at any significant level . I'm not sure that's the kind of risk we were in a position to take (although, Wilshere...but not for 22m). Time will tell whether he is really over everything but the suspicion remains that he might still be one recurrence from being finished. There's a player there, no doubt about that, and his last couple of seasons have been positive, but again - I'm not sure we were the right fit for him even if he'd have come (let's not forget that whilst we were celebrating survival under Moyes not that long ago, Marseille were in the Europa League final).

And I get you weren't saying we should have signed him specifically, but my point is that you can't really use him as a yardstick to say 'top level defensive midfielders are available for around 20m'. Unless they're a gamble in one way or another, they're not. Kante was 10m more and would probably be 20m more today the way things are going.

Now Drinkwater, there's a possible missed opportunity.

Well there’s a thing, we are saying the midfield needs to help the defense to make them less exposed! Looks like we need the defense to help out the attack!

What a goal from Diop, did you see he was in that position a lot asking got the ball and finally he got and scored a beauty.

Class act

I noticed that Roma are selling Kevin Strootman to Marseille for 22M

I'm not suggesting that he should be here but I can't believe that the defensive midfield wasn't the first priority ahead of all other positions when signings were made this summer.

It's worrying

Time will probably see us come good, just hope it doesnt take too long before we are settled.

I dont think Noble will not play a big part this season, when you see how Sanchez performed against Arsenal.
The defence must come together and play organised, especially on the left, where we were overrun again and again. Time will sort this out.
And I better not mention Fabianski and taking the lead with the defence again or Eerie will spank my bottom and give me a lecture about the failings of Adrian :)

Looking back at the Arsenal game, then I see a lot of forward momentum compared to our start vs Liverpool. Liverpool away will always be a dreadful start for us, so as SUM A DING WONG says. Time...

Tonight we should gain some confidence.

Cut Mark Noble in half and he is claret and blue through and through. We all know this. He's been a real trooper and a great servant to our club. He's not a legend, he's loyal and gets rewarded accordingly. It's time though that the club realise he is no longer premiership quality. He should be given a role to do his badges and get some good coaching under his belt. I am with Dr Moose here as long as he is in the team alongside Wilshere then we're going to get overrun.

Time to move on!

When you have a championship midfielder at best (Noble) in front of you and Wilshire who is not the quickest then the defence is going to get over run time and again. Its time to say thank you and goodbye to Noble, replace him with a defensive midfielder to give Wilshire the option to move forward.

With the exception of Arnie, Antonio & Masuaku, our line up was made up of all our pre season signings (I include Snodgrass as a new signing, as he spent the whole of last season on loan).

During the pre- season, we have to chop and change the side, in order to give the players roughly the same minutes, so that they are all equally, at the same level of fitness. Consequently & unfortunately, this didn't allow the players to spend enough time gelling, as a team.

We are suffering because of this. It's a bastard, but we have to deal with it. Time people, time.

It was a bug bear of mine that BFS would never change his system so I cant get Pellers a pass.

The glaringly obvious thing for me is not knowing what to do with Declan Rice.

Players aint good enough as simple as that or at least the current incumbents haven't shown it as yet.

In what way is Fabianski not commanding his defence? Because he doesn't wave his arms about like Adrian and show PASSION?

He is an excellent goalkeeper, who has not put a foot wrong so far for us. It's those in front of him who need to improve.

You're talking complete bollocks.

100% accept and agree that there is only so much you can organise as a keeper. Not at all saying anything else. I just want Fabianski to be a lot more vocal and to inspire his defenders and direct them, so they are not running around like headless chickens. Surely that cant be bad.

Of course that experience should definitely count for something - that’s why we spent more on him than than any keeper in the last decade (probably ever?)

But surely you accept there are something’s the keeper can’t do organisation wise? In theory they’re 20/30 yards further away from play than the back line, would only expect him to be commanding his box at set pieces or as play gets closer?

Re: How do we sort out our two bob cunt wanker defence then?!...
Doesn't matter how good or experienced your back line defenders are if there is inadequate protection in front of them they will be breached. We need to defend better from the front line and the midfield more effectively.

moorethanjustananon 2:10 Mon Aug 27

True indeed. There should be leaders, but since Rice has not played in defence, Zab being replaced by Fredericks, then it rest with Diop and Balbuena, if they are the 2 we go with.
Point is though that, it is not yet a settled defence and Fabianski is approaching 200 appereances in this league, so he should be taking the responsibility of guiding the defence. Fabianski is the one with experience and it should matter.

moorethanjustananon 2:10 Mon Aug 27
Re: How do we sort out our two bob cunt wanker defence then?!...
We certainly have the candidates for this role

Balbuena
Diop
Rice
Zabaleta

All have reputations for being leaders, loved nothing more than seeing 19 year old Rice telling others where they should be last season.

The goalkeeper has some role to play in organising / communicating with the defence sure.

But surely the bulk of the responsibility rests with the centre halves? At least one of them should be telling the others when to push up, when to hold the line, telling the fullbacks which should go and which should sit?

Could be any of the back four to be fair, we need a ‘captain’ in defence, like Lucas Neill.

Re: How do we sort out our two bob cunt wanker defence then?!...
Mind your blood pressure Eerie. Noone is saying that Adrian is better than Fabianski. Dont think Adrian was ever mentioned.

Since we are having a defence without premier league experience, Fabianski must do better and command his defence. Its not only about the one great reaction, that saves a goal, when 3 others go in. Fabianski must organise the defence, and it does not look organised.
