It is real (although most likely filtered), seen very similar pictures in National Geographic, it's volcanic eruption induced lightning.

Category 5 super typhoon #Mangkhut in western Pacific right now. Sustained winds of 161 mph ( = 260 km/h), gusting up to 196 mph ( = 315 km/h), pressure below 915 mbar.

FC - I wish!

I posted that pic years ago and it led to one of the most popular threads on here.

I might actually have to try something like that as i've been storm chasing now for years, seen about 30 tornadoes and done around 36 states.

I really want to go to Lake Catatumbo in Venezuela, The most lightning struck place on the planet but it's very dangerous, even though i can get body guards etc
