The bloke hut him a few times in the opening rounds but he hardly looked troubled, and in the end won it at a canter. Can't see anyone beating him currently.

Highlights.

Re: Joshua V Short Russian
There are decent USA heavyweights around but now there is so much more worldwide competition. And now heavyweights are bigger, compared to the days of smaller built men like Marciano/Floyd Paterson etc. and the USA does not have the monopoly of big people.

In short the roast of the world has grown up and caught up with US boxing.

Can anyone explain why there aren’t any decent USA heavyweights any more?

Not sure the Heavyweight Champion will have the same world wide APPEAL until they reappear.
Maybe there are more less dangerous sporting options around and the equivalent large men end up in American football or similar instead.

That for me was his best performance against an extremely dangerous opponent. Weathered an early storm, and came through with flying colours with an emphatic finish.

There’s no doubt about it, he will take some beating.

One of the best fights I've seen him have. Dangerous opponent that caught him dangerously in the first few rounds. AJ always looked like he was waiting for him to tire before unloading on him.
AJ isn't the finished article and has become world champ quite early in his career. It's clear promoters want to pick easier money spinning fights but these mandatory defenses pitch him against the best the division has to offer.

Make no mistake, if AJ was American there would be massive hype around him and probably a different perception about his talent. The division is much better now than it was in much of the Klitschko eras.

Povetkin was a former Olympic gold medalist had an unreal amateur career and lost one professional fight, he was no mug. What I liked about Joshua last night was he was getting troubled in the first 3 rounds but then he worked him out, and took him out clinically. I think it was his 22nd fight and people need to remember that. How anyone can say this is the worse heavyweight boxing has been, where have you been the last 10 years. This is the best it’s been since the Lewis era in terms of interest in the division.

Nothing against AJ, but it’s all a bit non-event isn’t it?
Apparently the undercard wasn’t up to much either?
But hey it’s at Wembley.

The U.S. don't dominate boxing anymore thats why they would have no interest. Wilder is exactly what it says on the tin, he is dangerous but a pub fighter a half fit Fury will tie him in knots

I can’t stand ‘AJ’. I don’t buy his nice guy routine & he just talks in cliches.

At least Fury is honest.

Povetkin is 6 foot 2, may I remind you of Tyson who was only 5 foot 11 now that is short for a heavyweight.

I;m with Vexed.... I'm not sure it would be that big in the US...

Re: Joshua V Short Russian
Vexed, I'm right.

It's simple mate, AJ is the biggest name in combat sports outside of Conor McGregor and if him and Fury fight to unify, the fight will be a world-wide occasion.

Decentish performance and fair play coming thro' a tricky first few rounds... prob give a solid 7/10... however... he is far far from the finished product like Lewis was in his prime.... tonight the R

"AJ v Fury as a unifying title fight would easily be the biggest fight in UK history and a huge historic fight in world boxing history and to say otherwise is rubbish. "

I don't think anyone else in the world would give two shits about that fight. You're embarrassing.

Cartis

You're completely right. Fury is the man in that division nobody wants to fight, can't punch like a heavyweight but possibly the best boxer, and wilder/AJ won't want to lose to an overweight pikey.

Alas, heavyweight boxing is an embarrassment, Joshua, our great national hero, has been hurt by an overweight amateur, knocked down by a 41 year old Slav, and given a boxing lesson for 5 rounds by a short Ruskie. He loses his next fight easily.

Re: Joshua V Short Russian
I think this is the reminisce corner because people are harking back to a golden age that has long past. AJ beats what's in front of him and had he been part of the golden age, who knows? Poor division or not, you beat who is in front of you and his meteoric rise deserves respect.

AJ v Fury as a unifying title fight would easily be the biggest fight in UK history and a huge historic fight in world boxing history and to say otherwise is rubbish.

Wilder will lose to Fury on points and the lineal heavyweight champion of the world will become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

Next year, whoever the opponent, will be one of the biggest British fights ever, and if he wins that he is into the legendary category.

That ridiculous statement msde me laugh as well.

Heavyweight boxing is a very poor division at present , if Fury gets his act together and his head right he could cause mayhem hes a very very awkward customer
