Reid and Carroll
Remember these two?

If they ever get fit again they will be expensive bench warmers (if that, £140,000 a week) barring lots of injuries. Time to give away in January and move on if we can?

Re: Reid and Carroll
The clubs that could use him couldn’t afford the wages.

We might be able to give Reid away, for free.

Agreed

Which is why I said he was no more than a competent above average defender on his better days. We've had so many poor players there in recent years that in comparison Reid's application and effort was appreciated but on the whole his qualities were overvalued...he was never a complete defender - just a younger Ginger Pele - with a tad more pace.

Better than what we had at the time though...

That article states we expect to Generate between 8 and 10 million by selling Carroll in January. I don't think any team would be that desperate. I'm sure Carroll would want an 18 month contract at least which would mean if the gamble did not pay off they would be picking up an extra 5 mill in wages a year for Carroll in the championship

If we need to Free up wages I feel anything more than a loan fee and his wages paid would be a result

Re: Reid and Carroll
Carroll isn't without talent, by any means.

But he'd seem a much better player if he could stay fit for long enough to build an understanding with some of his teammates.

There's more chance of Billy Bonds doing that...

Re: Reid and Carroll
Even when Reid was at his best for us he had 2 deficiencies IMHO and it was his distribution and lack of technique. In a Pellegrini team he needs to be able to play a bit. Good warrior type player when fit but he has been the proverbial glass man these last couple of seasons.

Re: Reid and Carroll
That’s all I want Carroll to do.
Sit on the bench and do 15 mins as and when needed.
And then he can wave goodbye in May

I could see him at Newcastle in the Championship next season. Under new manager Kevin Nolan

Haha.

Carroll would walk back to Newcastle to re-sign. If he could walk.

Until there's yet another new thread on here, I actually forget these two EXIST.

Re: Reid and Carroll
A fully-fit Carroll walks into 17 of the Premier League teams so it's either a case of get him fit and play him or let his contract run out and let him go.

We're saving fortunes in his wages via Gallagher Insurance whatever that spastic Texas Iron seems to have calculated so it pays us to keep him in every way other than that having him off the books helps us with two new signings what with FFP.

Re: Reid and Carroll
A move to Newcastle would be a dream for Carroll as he will be employed very close to the care home he is going into.

Re: Reid and Carroll
I definitely think if Reid can get back to full fitness and strength then he could definitely push for a starting place. But I do fear that scenario is a pipe dream.

Carroll is one of those players that you just can't forget. Against man Utd with about 20 minutes to go the bloke next to me said to his mate "This is where you could use Carroll". And he was probably right. Leading a game and then you bring him on to destroy the CB's... It's something that we will always have in our minds. However, again like Reid, it's just a pipe dream now.

Re: Reid and Carroll
For a couple of seasons Reid was excellent, that's when we shit ourselves and gave him an enormous contract.

Whoever wrote that article and thinks we could get £10m for Carroll in Jan needs to lay off the METH

Re: Reid and Carroll
I've never seen Reid as more than a competent above average defender on a good day.

Of course, that is still better than a lot of players we've had there in recent years but that contract was complete madness...Not even Vincent Kompany got such a long deal!

Reid has been excellent for us. But it's time to move him on now.

On his day a good PL CB...
Contract too long...too much cash given by panicking Sullivan...

A good DOF would never have agreed to it...

Re: Reid and Carroll
Maybe if there’s an injury he might, otherwise I’d be surprised if he did.

All of the signs were there in the last few seasons he just isn’t up to it any more. There’s a reason we let in so many goals in the last two seasons, and it isn’t the change of stadium,

Alex V 2:24 Mon Oct 1
Re: Reid and Carroll
Well he certainly doesn't have the abilities of Ferdinand or Moore to excuse him. Credit to him, he's made the most of what he has, and I wouldn't back against him getting back in the first team if and when he gets fit again.

Eggbert Nobacon 2:14 Mon Oct 1
Re: Reid and Carroll
would you? it was fairly shit when we had the likes of Bobby Moore and Rio Ferdinand so why should Reid by this one man defensive superman

Alex V 2:10 Mon Oct 1
Re: Reid and Carroll
If that was the case, you might expect our defensive record to have been better. Still, the media have always talked him up and he is the sort of no-nonsense player many fans like.
