in hindsight i don't think we played badly, one defensive lapse cost us a point - or possibly more. we didnt create a huge amount but controlled the game for large periods - and this gives me hope.
recent west ham teams have never been able to go to places like brighton and control the game. i get that the result wasnt what we want, but the nature of the performance wasn't far off.
in short i think we are moving in the right direction.

looking back on last friday, and the other games at the weekend- Ive seen the future - 10th at best. Now the leicester and everton are up and running them plus bournemouth look to have the 6-9 slots booked, the rest are away already,...
The technical level of most of the players isnt good enough to cut out the silly mistakes and loss of the ball all over the park which is why we keep losing to teams we should be putting away
we'll scuff a few two- four game sequences together however the excuses at then end of the season will be the same as ever ...

Agree with that. Away from home and starting to get on top. There's no need for Noble to go back too far to collect the ball and bring it forward.
I understand MP wants them to play the right way and bring the ball out from the back. It's commendable and is the right way to play. But you shouldn't be doing it in a way to cause risk.
As you say, just let Rice and co sort it out and get up the field.

Mental, absolutely mental. That is 0% right.

I don’t think it was the wrong formation or that it didn’t suit the players. It was more to do with us struggling to adapt to a possession based game, that is taking time to build confidence in.
It’s the intricacy of playing this way instinctively as a team that is a work in progress. Formations don’t win you games.

Isn't it time for a moratorium on this pathetic name-calling? It's just disgusting and incessant.
I want this to be a football forum.

Nonsense in that it didn't suit the players, didn't work in the slightest, invited the luxury players to contribute next to nothing in defensive terms. Naive in the extreme. It made Pellegrini look like a rank amateur - I think we'd still be on 0 points if hadn't completely changed it after Wolves.

here we go again. allardyce never played 4-3-3. the cunt had nolan playing off the front man for the majority of the time he was here. that was a 4-2-3-1 formation, you rainman cunt

‘Of course you can be attacking with it too like any shape, and that's why I prefer it to the utter nonsense Pellegrini was trying at the start of the season’
The only difference to the beginning of the season was we played with a number 10 instead of a holding midfielder. Not sure what is nonsense about that?

Need different tactics against teams that park the bus
Don't go all out attack...let them attack us...hit them on the break

>>> 4-3-3 is a defensive set up? None of Moyes, Bilic or Alladyce ever played a 4-3-3 consistently.
Don't want to get into all that again. But in my view Bilic and Allardyce played the same 4-3-3 / 4-1-4-1 throughout their time at the club. We play a packed midfield, two wide players and one striker. It's one of the less flexible, more defensively minded shapes. Of course you can be attacking with it too like any shape, and that's why I prefer it to the utter nonsense Pellegrini was trying at the start of the season. The question really is why you need to pay such big bucks to Pellegrini to play in such a standard shape.
I think a way to make it more attacking would be to play Anderson or Snodgrass as CMs instead of Obiang or Noble. I think experimenting with that would be a good idea for matches where we have to break down an opposition.
