I wanted us to take a punt on Dembele from Celtic. Instead he went to Lyon for relative peanuts and has started off well there, with a couple of goals in four games. Whether he would have succeeded or not for us you never know. He probably would have broken his leg by now.

Moussa Marega from Porto was a target for Pellegrini he was not a big fee, had a roll of 22 goals last season. Last summer all I hoped was to keep Marko , sign Balbuena and was so hoping for a last minute signing of Marega - he is a strong big black fella CFC looking with Carrolls heading ability but a natural goal predator with his feet and can chase a long ball or play to feet. As everything with football players nowadays its a confidence thing and signing him after last seasons goal tally he would have come at a good time. Suppose the Felipe money put pay to a pukka out and out rip roaring goal scoring machine.

But with Diop and co. Got MOORE than just keeping Marko and Balbuena.

MP could be the catalyst of a take over, he has been good enough to be directed by some of the Worlds richest obviously very trusted with high profile players and ( if there is a fucking God ) may have inner circles and without doubt net worked amongst the super rich ( maybe Chinese maybe the Arabs ) who do have the funding to keep investing in his players.

Despite the 4 losses he could well be an asset for a sale if we climb and get stability.

We should be looking to get rid of Carroll & Chicharito and Antonio and get some decent strikers in to support Marko

We need to feel relaxed if Arnie is not fit to play, we don't have that luxury as yet, this will come with consistent 3 seasons of investment.

However, I doubt the club see it like that

Nice post Peckham. Considered and balanced.

I panicked early on after 4 losses but since the adjustment in midfield and more Pellegrini coaching , I can see improvements so strangely for an old reactionary like me, I am relaxed.

I will be patient and do not expect too much this season. A decent cup run and not too close to relegation is an improvement to be honest. What is clear is that it will take a few seasons of Pellegrini to see the step up but he also needs the owners to continue to invest and that may be the problem because I worry they think the big investment this year gets them off the hook. It will need to be for several seasons.
