Chelsea Chairman speaks out against Financial Fair Play
What. A. Cunt.

Financial fair play rules should not lump big clubs like Chelsea and Manchester City with the ranks of the ‘great unwashed’, Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck said on Thursday.

The American suggested inequality in soccer was not necessarily a bad thing and said the rules now denied other clubs the chance of one day rising like Chelsea to the top of the Premier League.

‘I personally believe that for the development of football, marquee clubs and marquee players are important,’ Buck told the Leaders Sport Business summit at Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge ground.

'Just as West Ham don't want smaller clubs to match or outperform us'.

We've already been beaten by Bournemouth and Brighton this season but I don't hear any West Ham supporters asking for the rules to be changed to stop it happening again? That is in effect what Chelsea are proposing.

You see this quite a lot with the rich, once they get above a certain income they think the rules don't apply to them or they slant those rules to favour them. It's an attitude I see on this very website, that the rich have got where they are by don't of pure graft and sweat and the poor can fuck off because they are too feckless and undeserving. Neither of those points are necessarily true.

I remember Mourino saying that Man City should have been stripped of the title for deliberately ignoring FFP, buying whoever they wanted and paying up an FFP fine. They were so rich that it didn't bother them. I remember thinking Jose was a bitter cunt (Chelsea came second that year) but now I think he had a point.

FFP feels a lot like the grammar or private educated labour MPs ( and their kids) campaigning to end grammar schools.

On the face of it it looks wholesome and righteous but look closer and it’s to keep the little man/club down so they are dependant on those in power.

Chelsea absolutely shouldn't want newcomers to the elite. Just as West Ham don't want smaller clubs to match or outperform us. FFP absolutely protects Chelsea's status - before FFP they were close to going under, and maybe 99% of the time they would have done. Their good fortune I suppose. That can't really happen now.

The way FFP has hurt us I think is that West Ham weren't on a high enough plateau when it was implemented, probably as a result of relegation in 2011 shortly before it was implemented. So it's been in some ways holding us back without protecting our position. But we could have been run better. We could have had a better strategy. I think we could have done more since to overcome this.

In other ways you could say we were lucky with FFP coming in when it did. We were able to risk the club's finances to get promoted in 2012 just before FFP came into play. I think I'm right the same spending the next season we would have been in big trouble with those rules. I note on the FFP wiki it infers that the club's losses in 2005-10 would probably break FFP. So you could say we got away with a lot of mismanagement before FFP. Heck the club acknowledges it nearly went under in 2003 and again in 2009-10 - it's that sort of mismanagement that FFP is designed to protect against. So FFP has been a benefit to us - it's saved us from the nonsense that almost destroyed the club.

*Premier Lg2 has been proposed*

Re: Chelsea Chairman speaks out against Financial Fair Play
fair enough. do you think the current european elite, and I still include chelsea within that small group, want any newcomers to their cosy little club? prior to the start of the two european club competitions starting, I had a look at every club involved to see what transfer business they'd done (as I always do a few accumulator on group winners and teams to qualify). it was shocking how few teams actually spent big money, and with the majority just balancing the books. i'll always love the idea of trying to challenge the big boys and trying to compete, but it's becoming more and more of a false economy with either scum like Chelsea stockpiling talent or PSG attempting to outspend everyone else. you can see why Premier Lg has been proposed in the past by the top clubs, as they will then try and implement B teams so they can get round the current squad size limits and make the gap even wider between the haves and have nots

I’d prefer to see Chelsea fans electrocuted in their homes and work places as part of a long term government backed scheme.
Reckon we could wipe them all out in 5 years.

I do despise paying top money on players that aren't worth it or risk too much. Because, as these quotes describe, I simply don't believe it can work. If it could I'd be all for it. But I think it harms rather than helps us.

On FFP I think there have been some benefits to the sport so on balance I'm in favour of it. And I think we can make progress within such a system but we have to do things differently to overcome the limitations. But the big downside is exactly as Bruce Buck says - it has effectively enshrined the heirarchy that existed at the time it was implemented, and will likely continue to do so.

Without FFP I think it could have been even worse though, btw. The opportunity to risk all on success would have existed, but that would have seen more clubs going under, more crazy fees and wages, higher ticket prices etc.

Re: Chelsea Chairman speaks out against Financial Fair Play
The 'great unwashed' comment is stupid, but some of the other quotes seem quite reasonable to me. Does anybody really want the MLS system adopted in the prem? Of course not. His criticism of FFP does I think make quite a lot of sense as a West Ham supporter - it blocks us from ever joining the top table barring some massive long-term outplay, and pointing that out is quite important imo.

Bate's idea of electrocuting Chelsea fans had its attractions, but I turned away from the dark side and rejected it on humanitarian grounds.

If Abramovich hadn’t come along after Harding died they would have gone bust.
And would now be in the Championship or League 1 being watched by 7,000.
That’s still possible if Chelsea are seized as an asset under the Unexplained Wealth Order legislation until Abramovich accounts for the source of the funds that purchased them. Tells us where the bodies are buried for want of a better phrase.

Yep, money and greed is all that matters now to anyone in club ownership in the premiership.

Another thing that "grinds my gears". The term "big clubs" needs to end and use the proper term which is "rich clubs".

Listen to the media they use this term to try and divert the attention of millions of fans away from the reality that the whole game is rigged and designed to make money for a few.

Fucking Chelsea cunts.

There's a little prick Chelsea fan in my school who was moaning about how man city had just won the lottery, bought all their players and "ain't got no history"

I asked him if his ironyometer had exploded. Then pointed out that at 15, he was the same age as Chelsea and should wind his neck in.
