Declan Rice commits to England...........apparently
Source, Irish Independent.

C&P

West Ham star Declan Rice will switch international allegiance and end his Ireland career to join Gareth Southgate's England, according to a report today.

The Daily Star are reporting that the 19-year-old met with the England manager earlier this month and was presented with a wide range of statistical data to illustrate how he could fit into their plans.

The London-born holding midfielder was persuaded into pursuing a career with the country of his birth.

Rice, who qualifies for the Boys in Green through his Cork-born grandparents, has represented Ireland at underage level with distinction and earned three caps in friendlies earlier this year, but he has had his head turned and pulled out of recent Nations League games and the friendly with Poland as he mulled over his options.

It is understood that Martin O'Neill has also been in contact with the teenager in the past fortnight.

News of the in-form midfielder's likely departure will come as a massive blow to O'Neill and Ireland's hopes of making Euro 2020, where four games will be hosted at the Aviva Stadium.

He looks the genuine article. It would be typical if he proved that with someone else because our board idiotically still thinks it's clever...

Hel sign a new contract with us . No worries. Besides he's under contract until 2021 . Why would Sullivan take £20m now when he can get £80M in a couple of years .

Re: Declan Rice commits to England...........apparently
They didn’t sort his contract because they wanted to punish him for Oxford not developing.
Now that’s either going to cost twice as much in wages or we will lose a developing player for some piddling compensation amount compared to what he is worth.

Great work Dildoes
Sooner they piss off the better.

he's 19 and on recent form just about our best player. gets better every game regardless of how shit everyone else is.

we're going to have to become a much better side than current we are in the next 18 months if we want any chance of holding on to him. that's if he lasts through next summer.

dildos had a chance to lock up his contract in the summer, now he's giving them two fingers.

Let's see what happens with his contract before we all start wetting our panties.

He'd be mental to go back to Chelsea, they threw him out 4 years ago, and he'd end up on loan for the next 3/4 years.

Declan Rice has committed to England, as he's an Englishman. H3 hasn't turned his back on anyone.

Banjo is 100% English, yet turned his back on his country.

He is the Fred West of traitors.

I'm not sure I'd have had Rice in the side at the start of the season, I definitely would now, he's been absolutely superb in that DMC role.

and of course he's gonna pick England over Ireland.

Re: Declan Rice commits to England...........apparently
Any improvement in our team has been based around the combination of Fabianski with Diop & Balbuena in front of him protected by Rice.
With Arnie playing the role of our goal threat.
I guess we have 8 pts as 5 players can’t cover completely for 6 others.

You also have to remember that last season Rice played centre half as an 18yo with NO defensive midfield protection.
And some seemed delighted that he made two or three errors

I said it a while back but I think he’s better than Dier. The difference between them is only that dier plays for spurs and even then, he has the benefit of playing with other really good players. Rice is standing out playing in not an amazing team.

He would be bonkers to continue to play for Ireland given that I feel he will become a permanent fixture in England’s midfield.

The commercial / marketing benefits alone would make his agent beg for him to reconsider.

Rice will be an immense player and as it has been said, we need to tie him down on a long term agreement! Its rare to see such a gem emerge.

Re: Declan Rice commits to England...........apparently
To be honest, I think Rice has been underestimated by some posters on here, by a considerable margin.

We have had for an irritating amount of time, a completely porous midfield. Even mediocre teams ran through us with ease. We’ve had conjecture about who personally is responsible for this, individual players, managers and their systems they employ, etc.

For the first time in a long time, we have a player, who has youth and agility on his side, playing in front of the back four, denying the opposition space and time to pick damaging passes. His reading of the game is pivotal for the role.

I personally think Rice has become one of the most important players in the side at the moment, surprising given the short space of time he’s played in that role and his rapid elevation from potential liability (Newcastle away last season springs to mind), to commanding and reliable influencer of how the team shape up and perform.

If he can maintain his form and add experience to his game, there’s no reason why he couldn’t play for England.

Re: Declan Rice commits to England...........apparently
Rice's ability to read the game, spot danger and see a pass , at his age, is incredible really. They are difficult skills to coach as it comes down to a players intelligence and discipline and many lack this at his age group

I try and compare him to a player of his age in my lifetime, and i suppose Rio Ferdinand comes to mind, and although Rio had the pace and skill, he didn't have what Rice has. He is and is going to be some player. He should walk into England's midfield now.

We need to tie him down FFS, only so that we can command a sizeable fee for his true value, because unfortunately i cant see him being with us for more than two years.
