Alexandra Palace
Never been before - going on Friday night for a New Order gig.

Seems to be a bit of a pain to get to and away from - any recommended routes welcomed (coming into / back to Waterloo)

Cheers for the advice chaps.

Fantastic gig. Really enjoyed it. Packed out. Set list was a very strong one.

Pegged it out of there just as love will tear us apart was starting to end. Got a shuttle bus back to wood green. South western trains are ducked up enough for me to top on a delayed 'first stop surbiton' which lands there in 10 mins.

Enjoyex thr venue - The 2 pint pots are a decent idea snd having a load prepoured is something we could do with at the LS

Fuck me badger you’re right. Shows how up I am with things. Slipped under my radar that. Saw The Farm, Blur, Manson, The Charlatans and ‘cringe’ The Shamen there. Great venue, shame

Re: Alexandra Palace

It's not that bad to get to
Go Wood Green then bus or walk
Probably best by bus

Or connect at Finsbury Park
Or connect Moorgate direct to Alexandra palace

Re: Alexandra Palace
I saw them at The Troxy a few years ago, that was a cracking little venue, and a piece of piss to get to and from.

Re: Alexandra Palace
Walking to Wood Green (20 minutes) or Highgate (half an hour) are options if you want to get away from the crowds.

Re: Alexandra Palace
I thought it was a great gig venue. Saw blur there in '94. Loved it.

I'd take venues like that over Wembley arena or the O2 anyday. Shame places like that or the Kilburn national/Kentish town forum or Brixton academy are increasingly overlooked

Re: Alexandra Palace
It's a pukka venue but fuck me is it a trek from East London way. It's up on a hill and Canary Wharf is fucking miles away from it.

Then when you come out thousands of people are all following the same thin path down the hill towards Wood Green. It takes fucking ages to get to the tube. And getting cab is impossible.

But just stating the facts and so you have two options. Either worry about that and get towards the exit near the end and then as soon as they finish get the fuck out.

Or just fuck that all off. Have a mad one. Take it all in and worry about getting home at whatever time and however.

The second option may end up costing you lots of money in cabs but, hey, if you've gone for fuck it then you've gone for fuck it.

Should be a great gig.

Re: Alexandra Palace
Big room for a big crowd. Plenty of atmosphere if it's people that want to make it. You'll be fine.

Re: Alexandra Palace
shithole barn of a venue - no atmosphere

enjoy

Great Northern Line is the name of the spooky service.

As much as I like a beer at a gig I always drive for Ally Pally gigs. Get there early, park on the hill, have dinner in the pub on site.

Re: Alexandra Palace
Accoustically Ally Pally has always been a bit flakey...the sound just disappears through the ceiling...however they are restoring a smaller theatre in one corner of the place which was used by the BBC but had been bricked up and forgotten about for years.

I always get the ghostly timewarp train from Moorgate up there...the 80's network South East train/tube which is dusty and filthy...saw the masters snooker there in Feb and that line remains the same

We took our daughter there a couple of years ago to watch panic at the Disco... she is a massive fan... looked at the public transport and then thought fuck it and drove instead... great venue I thought and surprisingly the band were pretty good...

I last went to Ally Pally in '73 to see Wishbone Ash headlining an all day mini-festival. I drove and parked up nearby. Hope this helps.
