The Europa League must be the most tedious and pointless competition in its current format.
Especially when the third placed Champions league teams drop down and make all that’s been going on since July utterly irrelevant.
I’d put all the teams that qualify into a HAT and draw out 32 of them and go straight to knock out.
The other 368 teams that qualify & don’t make the 32 .... bad luck, try again next time.

Re: Tonights Champions League
The best ‘Champions League’ was when it was the European Cup and for the CHAMPIONS plus the winners (if required)

Nottingham Forest won it and the next season drew the English Champions Liverpool in the first round.
AND KNOCKED THE CUNTS OUT

Boom. Thanks for coming

You can’t meet any team from the same country or from the same group in the last 16. After that isn’t it an open draw.

Changing the subject, Ajax v Bayern was a bit of a thriller. 6 goals, 2 penalties and 2 red cards.

The seeding system is such that Barca and RM can only meet in the final.

Could be wrong, but sure the English teams can't play each other in the last 16.

Re: Tonights Champions League
The seeding goes on too long in order for one of the lesser teams to win it.

Cream always rises over two legs which is why there's only ever been 1 or 2 shocks and probably not huge shocks seeing as the manager both times was mourinho, who although a cunt, was tactically brilliant before football progressed past his negative tactics.

Usual suspects yet again in this year's semis I'm sure.

At this stage, all should just be lobbed into a pot.

You could win the CL not being the best team though. It is a cup competition after all.

I see tonight's SSN coverage has Sue Smith as a pundit. She was on Quest's Saturday night coverage of football league too.

Jeff Stelling never has women in the studio on Saturday afternoons though.
UNBELIEVABLE.

Their fans are having fun I'm sure, but they're nowhere near the top teams. Still, enjoying the ride is what supporting a club is all about.

Well run club financially, but will never be taking that next step while levy is obsessed with net spend.

Thank fuck!!!

Can't see certain players hanging around much longer either, when seeing someone like their pal walker cleaning up.

Great for England if kane etc have ambition and go to a better club.

Spurs have a good model.

They have a good first eleven, but I wouldn’t say a great squad. But they’ve established themselves into a top four position every season, and are having a go in the CL, even if Lady Luck is helping them along the way, which every club needs in a cup run.

Cunts.

Of course we would want to be in one of these competitions, but FWIW, a straight knockout would be far better than all this mini league nonsense beforehand, which is just about trying to make money, and gives big clubs a second chance if they slip up, they also have the squads to be able to compete, look at mid size clubs who play these mini league games, seems to fuck there domestic season right up with all these home and away mid week games travelling all over europe.

EL obviously, the CL is a dream.

Re: Tonights Champions League
We would still love European football, let’s be honest. It’s the thing crave, maybe as much as actually winning something of note domestically.

The last couple of efforts against the Romanian part timers were embarrassing. Maybe we’ll be in the mix in a season or too.

What Sydney said. Knockout, none of this boring league rubbish.

Re: Tonights Champions League
Just about sums this competition up, when all the "big" clubs either lost or are currently losing, and no one raises an eyebrow, its just been a kick about for some, Real Madrid lost 0-3 at home to CSKA.

Be a bit pissed off if you were a fan and had paid good money only to see your superstars wander about not giving a fuck.

Grumpster 10:21 Wed Dec 12
Re: Tonights Champions League
Yeah the European cup and cup winners cup used to be brilliant competitions.

CL is now purely to make certain corporations money, as completely set so that the same teams win it every year and the cunt lasts longer than the league which is ridiculous.

Europa is just an abomination.

Sydney_Iron 10:18 Wed Dec 12
Re: Tonights Champions League
About the only game with any significance is Shakhtar against Lyon, The Ukrainian side have to win, a draw and Lyon go through, currently 1-0 to the Shakers!!

All the other games are meaningless.

Should revert this comp and the Europa to a straight knockout, far more entertaining.

What about that tackle by Valencia? Only late by several seconds.
