My phone is listening to my conversations
|
Swear to god.
In the summer was at a music festival and there was a Gordon's gin tent. We had some conversation about Gordon's Gin and the next day on Twitter I'm getting ads for Gordon's gin Yesterday I went for a check up at the dentist who went through the usual stuff about brushing and flossing to avoid bleeding gums. Today I'm getting adverts for corsadyl to prevent bleeding gums.
Has anyone else noticed ads that appear to have been targeted for you based on conversations you've had?

Gentile Cheers ,,, going to have a purge on my apps today. Got to work out this maps thing too. In my car at 4.00am within two minutes it knows I’m driving to shortlands for the 04.52 to Victoria. Then I get messages about trains all day. It knows I’m a driver. That’s not on my facebook. Big brother is seriously being nosey.

On a similar note I had a call on my mobile at the beginning of the season in what appeared to be a crossed line- I didn't think this could happen on mobile phones!! Anyway I'm listening away and it's a disgruntled Spurs fan moaning to someone after their defeat to Liverpool saying Pochetino has to go, mental, I was cracking up.

I used to work for a multinationak corporate who were in bed with facebook. The data this corporate purchased from Facebook literally allowed them access to know everything about you, your family, your movements, likes, dislikes, personal information etc.
They do all sorts of shit with this data (your data) and sometimes even share it on to affiliates for money.
This is all because of your Facebook and Google settings on your mobile.
Turn off access to your microphone and uninstall Facebook, Instagram and wassap from your handset.
If you must use Facebook then use the browser only.
I deleted my Facebook account and try to use wassap as little as possible.
These organisations are out of control.

Ordered a book of amazon a couple of days ago , had to input a different credit card , my sisters address (for delivery) and a different billing address .
Had 20 odd junk e mails this morning from squirty Cindy , slutty Sarah and a couple of bisexual twins .
Lucky me .

I keep telling you people that no good comes from Twitbook. It's poisonous. No-one listens to me.

If you open the Maps app on an Android phone you can go to "Your Timeline". It's a record of everywhere you've been with your phone. Integrated with your mode of travel, any photos you took while you were there and links for businesses and amenities you visited. Quite handy if you've ever wondered where you went last night or piecing together clues for why you've woken up in the window of a fishmongers in Ilford.
From a handful of people I've asked, most phones have the locations permissions required switched off by default, but my Google Pixel didn't. But I've kept it on. I find it quite handy and not just for the occasional missing evening on the beers. I'm not too threatened by the other aspects of it.

It's 100% the Facebook app, and this should be a massive story- if you have the app talk randomly talk about back pain for ten minutes and you'll be getting painkiller and chiropractor adds in no time

I’ve had the same. Speaking to my cousin down the phone about buying some land to build a house and the subject of Japanese knot weed came up. I’d never even heard of it before he mentioned it in the call. No googling etc. Next day I get ads for Japanese knot weed removal almost everywhere. I had basic apps on my phone nothing dodgy. Love to know what did this...

'I'd be fucking surprised if GPS knows what tent you've been at a festival. You think they'd bother to update that for a tent that exists for 2 days?'
I'd be even more surprised if the map reference ceased to exist when the tent was taken down.

Microsoft is testing some privacy and notification features in its latest Windows 10 Insider preview for Fast Ring users. A previous build added an icon to the notification area that tells you when your microphone is in use, and the newest update will let you see which app is using it when you mouse over the icon. If more than one app is using your mic, the icon will tell you how many. It's a useful privacy enhancement, especially if you're concerned about eavesdropping

I noticed this the other day. I started typing into Google and it went straight to the subject we had just been discussing.

"You're surprised that your phone, and thus your operator and almost certainly Google and probably half a dozen other apps that you have forgotten to scroll through 6 pages to turn the GPS off, knows you've been in the Gordon's tent at a festival?"
