Broken oven
|
Can anyone give any advice as to a possible fix for a fan oven that suddenly blew the main fuse after being on for ten mins and then when I looked in the oven there are no obvious signs other than a strange white ish coating on the inside of the door and sides, the clock is still on after the main fuse has been changed

Easy enough to replace an element. Can be tricky if the old nuts/screws are corroded onto the oven. Some YouTube vids are available to walk you through it.

Throw a bucket of water over it in case it catches fire

Two screws and it's fixed.
Like most things.
As stated, Youtube is your friend and the part for mine cost less than £20.

I also replaced the heating element. Very easy if you get the right one. For the cost it is worth doing and finding out that wasn't the problem ,but I bet it is. If you take of the old one first In order to make sure your replacement is the same) it will obviously be blown.

It's overheated ,the white coating is fat and residue turned to ash. You'll never trust it again . Renew.

I was gonna suggest a good old knob wiping, but the strange white stuff sounds like you have already tried that method.

The same thing happened to me a few weeks ago (without the white coating bit).
If the light works for the temperature sensor (my light goes off when the oven is heated to the correct temperature), but you're getting no heat, then it's more than likely the heating coil is buggered.
I bought a new heating coil for just over a tenner from ebay, and found some instructions on You Tube on how to install it.
It did the trick.
