9th is as good as it gets
We've avoided relegation but I doubt we'll finish in the top half. Sorry to disagree with those still 'dreaming' of 7th spot (like it matters anyway).

If the Everton match is anything to go by, we could well end up as low as 14th.

7th has opened wide about 5 times now, and every time we bottle it, or don't even turn up.

I'm getting disappointment fatigue now. Hard to care when the players don't seem to, and neither do half the fans.

The whole club needs a steel capped boot up the arse.

Too many players have lost interest

Have to beat Leicester and Everton at Home to have a crack at 7th, as they are both on our tails. Having just seen us struggle to be up for Cardiff and Huddersfield though, its hard to see us winning both of those, although we are more than capable on our day.
Win those two games, however and we may have a good chance with Wolves and Watford having to play each other and having Cup distractions.

Wolves and Watford may well take their eyes off the ball in the league. We can take advantage.

As if.

Reaching high and failing is never a bad thing.

Being disappointed is a part of adult life.

We need to progress and keep our good players, being in Europe makes that more possible.

Still better than relegation, though accepting it that way proves sadly that we have not moved on very much with our new manager and players.

Injuries Injuries Injuries, without them who knows eh?

Re: 9th is as good as it gets
IMO we do not have the squad for a Europa campaign and it would likely impact our league form based on the outcome of teams in it over the last few years.

But its hard to say you dont want to finish as high as possible.

It worries me that Sullivan will see the need for a squad the same as last time... quantity versus quality. We need 4 or 5 high quality players. One or two central midfielders to complement Rice and the lightweight / smaller technically creative 3 players like Anderson, Lanzini and Nasri. Noble and Snoddy should be bench options now IMO. We look vulnerable to the counter unless we play 5 in there and sit deep which means playing 2 up front is often a problem especially away from home.

We need 2 full backs still probably. Fredericks gave us hope he was the man against City away but his poor technique ( passing) and defensive positioning are not up to it. Perhaps a close season and Pellegrini's team working on improving him could still mean he becomes the player we need?. Left back , Cresswell is not strong enough physically and his crossing / passing too erratic. He has good games but always vulnerable to real pace and in the air and for me technically ( passing and control ) a notch or two below what we need.

Antonio a "different" option off the bench at best but technically one of the worst players. His passing and decision making shows those Championship level roots too often :-( Teams that press him and can match him physically and he is out of the game and resorting to Hollywood shots into row Z.

Then a real goal scoring forward with power and pace.

So we are going to have to do some smart trading ( sales ) because the level of investment in new players still needs to be as high as last season.

Obiang, Arfur, Oxford, Reid, Adrian, Perez, Arnie, Antonio can all be sold if needed for funds. Snoddy might be one to move on too if a decent price can be had for a 30+ aged player these days? Carroll will go for nowt but his wages being saved. I would keep Little Pea if he is happy with being in the super sub role for lots of games.

Lets hope we go for quality over quantity and of course hope we get players this side of 25 years old. Husilos and the scouting system need to deliver.

Obviously not great not being there but a good draw if we want 7th and Europe.

One of the better sides will be out vs Man City.

The way they play in the cup at home, and you can multiply that ten fold if up against us, they'd have tonked us, playing the way we are, lucky escape if you ask me...

Re: 9th is as good as it gets
The rest of the season's really about mental strength for mine. We've safe from relegation, so do the player have the pride to keep working hard and winning games?

Re: 9th is as good as it gets
I'm not that bothered about Europe this season, even if it were possible.

We always fall at the first hurdle anyway, so our form needs to be a lot better than it is now.

If we caught both (finishing 7th) and one of them won the cup, (ie. what would happen if they both won their semis) then 7th would not mean Europe.

That 7th spot would go to the winner of the Cup.
