Agree; Fab's been a revelation in comparison to Randolph or Adrian. Almost flawless, no dramatics, and heaven forbid, comes for crosses and catches them. Adrian refuses to do that.
Bollocks to distribution. Stop goals first. That's the idea I thought.

I didn't think sterling will get to the next level in terms of consistency but he's proved me wrong. guardiola and his coaching team have really improved him and he's been great since the world cup and in this more adventurous formation. southgate's been brave playing this attacking a line up but it's really paid off

Make you right there. Was watching some of the 85/86 season not long ago and even Parkesy made a few errors from time to time and saw something the other night on You Tube when Ray Clemence made a bit of a howler so they all make mistakes but it isn't highlighted.
Biggest difference I see these days bar the back pass is that keepers rarely seem to catch and hold shots preferring to parry them out but as modern footballs move about a lot more I suspect it's just a safety first decision.

I prefer Heaton to Pickford as well.

I don't think Fabianski has been blatantly at fault for a goal this season. A couple where maybe he could've done better, but he's so good at the basics of keeping. I think the only thing stopping him being mentioned in the same breath as those, colly, is his distribution, but for me that's by the by, I like keepers to be good at keeping first and foremost.

I don’t think the goalkeeping standard has dropped. There are some absolutely top top keepers about, DDG, MATS, Oblak, Ederson.
It’s just that everything is so over analyzed these day we see every goal, every mistake every movement from keepers.
30 years ago there wasn’t that much coverage of it. Top keepers back then were still making mistakes, it just wasn’t rammed down our throat 24/7 on twitter SSN and the likes.

It seems nowadays that every goalkeeper has a howler in them. The days of Banks are long gone.
The weight of the balls has made a big difference, as has the back-pass rule. Whoever invented that change was a genius, because there is comedy gold every season.
What else has caused standards to drop?

"Definitely- he doesn't in any way deserve to be dropped as things stand unless one of the other keepers demonstrates that they are a better option."
Yep i'd have to agree

I suppose in this country we do tend to focus on player weaknesses rather than strengths.
Pickford's strength is definitely his distribution.
His weakness is goalkeeping.

And you're right, every keeper does make a fuck up at some point- it's inevitable. Even the greats. But I'd say Pickford has a long way to go to prove he's in the same class of keeper as those other two yet. He still has a lot of time on his side to develop, though and at the moment he's probably the best man for the job. If I had to pinpoint a potential weak link in the England side though, it could well be him.

He is good, but is he tournament winning?
Yes. Got to the semi finals last year with him in goal.
Made top quality saves, against both Colombia and Sweden, to help win those matches.

Pickfords main strength is his distribution. Its superb, I do feel at the moment though he is the weak link in our side. He is good, but is he tournament winning?
Also loving England at the moment, well done Southgate and the kids.

Scorch... he's got a touch of the Grobb's about him for sure... but would be very harsh to drop him for what he he done for the National side so far... even Shilts and Seaman made boo boo's for us.. yeah that's US

He hasn't really made a mistake for England yet, but I can't help but feel Pickford has a clanger or two in him. Jut like against us for Everton at the end of last season. Seems to be a few questioning him at the moment.
He's decent, but he's no Seaman or Shilton, that's for sure.
