No fight on the pitch, but a punchup at half time off it.
Couple of fellas had a scrap in the bobby Moore stand under the big screen at half time yesterday. No stewards or security stepped in, it lasted for about a minute and was handled by the fans. One of the fellas was pretty banged up and left a trail of claret in the bogs. I was pondering that the “wonderful” stewards will toss you out for swearing, but seemingly allow a punch up to come to its natural conclusion.

Not sure what it's got to do with Robert Lindsay

If nothing happens then of course it's easy money - if something unpleasant happens then it's not worth getting involved is the point

The stewards are surely paid to keep order regardless of shit wages.ive too witnessed the pricks give it large being bullies in numbers ganging up on blokes doing fuck all wrong.
ive also witnessed the pricks cheering the likes of Liverpool,Chelsea, and Man city scoring goals against us also in numbers.
Personally I couldn't give a fuck I'd happily lump anyone of the wankers if I saw fit and wouldn't care what the outcome was,if I got barred I wouldn't give a toss.
But there needs to be order in place if we are playing lively opposition.
I'd hate to see families coming unstuck.its another case of our owners doing everything on the cheap which they've got away with thus far but sooner or later it will go off over there and theyll be the first to plead ignorance.
How's a few hundred stewards copping hold of a tenner an hour and a handful of coppers gonna keep order?

You should have said non-Catholic religious fools, eusebovic...

I don’t blame them for not getting involved in a scrap. They are paid to ask people to sit down, not to get involved in a fight.

Easy money really for a day in Stratford doing not very much. AKA, more exploited than 18th century kids up chimneys if you’re EusebioWolfieVic though.

The first rule of steward/security training is do not put yourself at risk if you don't feel confident or are intimidated about handling a situation.

Not everyone is dim enough to put themselves in a situation that they can avoid especially when it's for crap money and zero hours contract

Some will though...probably religious fools out of moral obligation - a streetwise bod will simply refuse to do it.

And you know that ;-)

Did they know about it though? With the swearing they get advance notice to do something, whereas this could have gone off before they found out/got the chance.

They pretend to pay us, we pretend to work...

Part of their job is to deal with things like this.
Their wages and contract should have nothing to do with it

I'm sure that the stadium legacy board pay Securitas handsomely for taking on the contract. The hourly rate is probably £30 - they pay some poor bastard on their books just under £10 and cream off the rest.

This doesn't guarantee optimum spectator safety but under this present system of economic cronyism I guess that isn't the point

No, I wouldn't and it's a fair point you make.
I would, however, expect an environment that is safe for people to "enjoy" themselves without worrying about being embroiled in a tear up between a couple of pissed up blokes.
My question would be who is responsible then? As mentioned I've seen security swarm around a bloke mob-handed for swearing, but as soon as some real work is required they are nowhere to be seen.

Tonka

If you was employed by Securitas (or similar) and was on a zero hours contract earning the minimum wage would willing to risk a crack on your noggin for taking the trouble?

Not sure if I would
