Re: Tommy Smith brown bread
I liked Tommy Smith, proper old school hard man
He could take without complaining, as well as dishing it out
Rumour has it that he'd pour neat iodine on to any cuts he got & not even flinch
RIP

Love what Shankly said of him:

'Tommy Smith wasn't born. He was quarried'

Fair enough.

RIP

NS - our lot supported Clyde in the face of racism.

TS would've been the prime suspect for sending the acid attack letter

It's funny, hard and dirty players like Harris, Hunter, Dougan and later, Dicks, were quietly admired.

Yet now, to cheat you have to dive as being a dirty cunt doesn't work anymore. And the modern cheats are rightly called out for it.

We could do with more characters like Smith and Dicks in the game but it will continue to be sanitised. Tackling without written permission from the player in possession will be a yellow card offence before long.

Compare and contrast this git to the West Ham team of Clyde Best's day

In November '74 four of us drove up to Anfield to see us get a rare 1-1 draw. We stood in the paddock - the terrace at the front of the old main stand.

The feature of the game was Keith Robsons constant skirmish with Tommy Smith which culminated in a priceless moment right in front of us when Robbo was tearing down the wing, saw Smith coming for him so pushed the ball ahead and hurdled Smith as he tried to cut him in half. The result was Smith sliding off the pitch onto the cinder track on his Aris. Must have taken him ten minutes to pick the bits out.

Robbo scored our goal that day with Smith firing in a piledriver to equalise. Ironic.

The only other thing I can say about Smith is that Ron Greenwood would never have had him in his team because he was an out and out dirty fucker. Like Chopper Harris he would have curtailed a lot of careers,

I'd love to have seen him deal with a whiny cry baby like Neymar (for example)

When you think of all the greatest Brazilian players of the past the list is endless yet know nothing cunts still have the nerve to put that little shit anywhere near a best of list...

Apparently had knees of 187 year old... would have killed half the players playing in today's prem... as tough as they come

I saw him play for Liverpool against us during the early 70’s. He was as tough as old boots and looked about 50 and very sinister.
