Positives and negatives for the season.
I want to end on a positive note so I'll start with the negatives.

1. Injuries - so many. Too many players to name them all. The one that disappointed me most was Yarmolenko. He wasn't quite fit at the start of the season but when he got injured he was looking like quite a player.
2. Bad start to the season. Four straight losses - that has had a significant effect on our finishing position.
3. Arnie/China - he was our talisman and was playing really well, but this whole episode really put a spanner in the works and probably had quite a lot to do with the next one....
4. Inconsistency, especially January to March. Some truly dire performances mixed in with some reasonable ones. As well as Arnie there were the injuries to Lanzini and Balbuena and Diop's loss of form, which all contributed.
5. Refereeing decisions - more than our fair share of bad ones, which definitely cost us points. Bring on VAR!
6. We concede too many goals and finished the season with a negative gd. Need to tighten up. Signs of improvement lately.
7. The striker situation - we badly need a consistent performer to lead the line. Is Arnie back and forgiven? At the very least we need someone to genuinely compete with him.

Positives

1. Decent football - we generally play positive, entertaining football under Pellegrini. The West Ham way, anyone?
2. Fabianski - fabulous keeper, great signing.
3. The emergence of Declan Rice - a joy to behold.
4. The fans - incredible, every week.
5. Strong finish to the season - a good sign for next season, hopefully.
6. Mark Noble - has had his ups and downs this season, like everyone else, but has been outstanding the last few games and scored an excellent goal today. If he can maintain this level...
7. The return of Jack Wilshere - i don't expect everyone to agree with this one, but I think he has been excellent when he has come on these last few games. If we can keep him fit for at least half a season he could make a significant contribution next year.

I haven't said anything about the ground because I know it's still a divisive issue, but I think it's gradually feeling more like home and the atmosphere really isn't bad. It will never be the Boleyn, though.

Is that right Lee, we’re in the top 3 for giving youngsters a go? I did not think we did so much in that area and could have done more. Just shows how competitive the league is that youngsters get few chances. Well done Pellegrini. Who were the other teams giving youngsters a go?

Re: Positives and negatives for the season.
You don't think much has changed?

Odd that we're one of the most improved teams in the league then (as a % of points compared to last year), and we're also in the top 3 of teams playing teenagers in the team, and also the type of football is a mile away from what Moyes was trying to do, isn't it?

But yeah, not much has changed.....

Re: Positives and negatives for the season.
Overall it was a positive season considering the hitch pitch nature of our squad.

I don't think we were two far from 4 extra wins rather than losses. Injuries, Sulky Fucktards aside we did reasonably well and beat some of the bigger clubs playing good football.

Let's see if he can move some of the deadwood on and sign about 3-4 decent players to improve the spine of the team.

Centre Back
Defensive Midfielder
Striker
Maybe a left back

If you want a comparison as to how we have improved just think of the game v the yi...i mean spurs at Wembley last year when Obiang scored the screamer. I think the whole game was played as a siege and we had barely any attempts on goal. Now look at this year's away game v spurs. Not only did we win but also had many more chances than them and should have had more goals.

It is true that we have played a few stinkers but that was the same last year too.

Another positive has been Pellegrini's calming stewardship of the whole club, the silencing of the board, and the general removal of the club fom a continual cycle of salacious rumour and scandal.

Plus the improvement in relations between the club and the landlords at the stadium.

On the whole I enjoyed the season and that is huge positive.
The Jan - March dip, caused party by Arnautovic was the worst part. Exit from FA cup was a massive disappointment.
Pellegrini is also a huge positive, really enjoying him managing.

Positives

Home form - only one home loss since Xmas

We became a threat to the big sides again, taking 11 points off the top 6

Re: Positives and negatives for the season.
Not a bad season for Pellegrini. Under him we won 15 games only bettered by Redknapp, twice, and Pardew/Bilic once each with 16 wins in a season.

I thought last August that we had a squad good enough to challenge for the best of the rest spot scoring points in the high fifties with a positive goal difference. We did not quite achieve that due to a much changed squad taking time to bed down, too many injuries, the disruption of the Arnautovic transfer saga and some rough luck with referee decisions.

Nevertheless the signs are there that provided our squad is further strengthened we have a manager capable of making us the best team below the top six. And actually the way ManU are shaping up maybe sixth spot in the EPL is not out of the question.

Won some
Lost some
All a bit tepid

Drawing with pool and them losing their momentum is a proper plus but nothing in comparison with winning stuff.

Re: Positives and negatives for the season.
I’d add Andy Carroll not having much of a run of games, which might make a manager think “if he can stay fit...”

I’d like to think Pellegrini wouldn’t have wanted to offer an extension, but his injuries have worked out beautifully for us.
