Selling Obiang with no plans of replacing him is crazy. We are desperate to add some strength in central defence. Rice has bags of potential but is still learning, Noble is a another year older/another year slower, Sanchez is a liability and will be 34 himself in Feb. Obiang might not be the player we want/need but he is better than no player!

We also need to get another striker in. Haller replaces Arnautovic but we've brought no one in to replace Carrol/Perez. No matter what people think of those two players they still played 33 times between them last season (and in Perez's case with a in 3 goal ratio) which suggests we do need to get back up in that position.

Yup, agreed.
For too long it's been painful to watch teams waltz through our midfield at will.
Fornals looks a great buy but it won't change our leaky midfield. We've been linked with some decent solutions, like Pulgar and Aranguiz. We need at least one in there.

West Ham want £9m Arsenal midfielder Mo Elneny

Danny Owen

Mohamed Elneny started just five Premier League games for Unai Emery's Arsenal last season - could he be tempted to join West Ham United?

West Ham United are interested in signing Mohamed Elneny from Premier League rivals Arsenal, according to Ahly News, and could pay £9 million for the midfielder.

The Hammers have recruited very intelligently in the last two summers and, with Sebastien Haller and Pablo Fornals set to provide goals and creativity aplenty, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that Manuel Pellegrini’s side could challenge for a place in the top six next season.

And should Elneny arrive too, he’d provide plenty of control and energy in a rather lightweight midfield.

Carlos Sanchez and Jack Wilshere, perhaps predictably, struggled badly with injuries during the 2018/19 campaign while Pedro Obiang is closing in on a return to Italy with Sassuolo, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

So Elneny, a four-time league champion with Basel who has earned 67 caps for the Egyptian national team, would certainly fill a gap in West Ham’s squad, even if his arrival would be overshadowed by that of Haller and Fornals.

Ahly claims that Arsenal would be tempted to cash in on a player who made just five Premier League starts during Unai Emery’s debut season at The Emirates. Their priority, however, is to use Elneny as a makeweight in a deal that would see Wilfried Zaha arrive in North London from Crystal Palace.

But West Ham need a midfielder of Elneny’s qualities far more than a Palace side who are not short of options in the centre of the park.

Re: Summer Transfer window rumours/discussion thread.
According to C & H who perhaps struggle to post any negative opinion to ensure Goldo or whoever keeps giving them some snippets? We are not getting anyone else in and not replacing Obiang?

Now in an ideal world we would get a new LB, better options at CB and have another striker option. But for me, and only an old miserable git's armchair fan opinion, a consistent one that bores the ar** of me repeating it, yet alone all you out there listening to it, the midfield ( esp central ) remains too lightweight and / or slow.

Against teams that play on the front foot and try to get forward, we will I suspect continue to do well. But once again, I foresee us being suspect to teams that line up with 4 or 5 in the middle, with some physical lumps, are happy to sit back and hit us on the counter and generally press us. Give us time on the ball and we will do ok but close us down and we give it away. Also out of possession, other than Rice and the willing but slow Noble and Snoddy, who will be busting a gut to track back or is naturally defensive minded? Like I say, wont be every game but expect the same as last season with poor results against teams that will bully us, overrun us in midfield and/or are happy to park the bus and counter.

Rice better not get injured as someone mentioned the other day.

I suppose Formals and Haller could make all the difference?. We have to hope so because they are essentially the only new players we will be adding into the mix if old Hugh was sober this morning and got his information right?

Cullen technically much better than Rice!

Re: Summer Transfer window rumours/discussion thread.
Cullen will make a decent career as a Championship player but hasn’t shown anything that says he is above that.
In style he reminds me of Harry Winks but Winks is a Premier league player and he isn’t

Good luck to him at Charlton if that’s where he goes
Sanchez can go whenever he likes too but will be harder to shift

Re: Summer Transfer window rumours/discussion thread.
It's a shame about Cullen, he's a good little player, technically much better than Rice but lacking the physicality or speed he needs and Rice has to make it at Prem level. Decent championship player for me.

Cullen rumoured to be going Charlton permenantly £300,000.

Cullen is 24 next season, if he's not first team ready now I\\'d sadly suggest he never will be

When do we see Fornals, Haller, Balbuena and Masuaku join up with the team? today?

Three friendlies left to bed them in.

Re: Summer Transfer window rumours/discussion thread.
Or we could accept that they’re both not good enough options and get someone in who would do a job?! We need to get to the stage where we’re not relying on weak links any more. Both Cullen and Sanchez are poor options.

I still think we’re going to bring in another midfielder. Maybe one of the Chilean players we’ve been linked with? Aranguiz or Medel.

Pagey.

So let's send Sanchez on loan to the championship instead.

Re: Summer Transfer window rumours/discussion thread.
Cullen would be better off having a season on loan to a Championship club.

He is a better option than Sanchez but then again who isn’t?!

Re: Summer Transfer window rumours/discussion thread.
Not sure why people are again writing cullen off saying he has had a bad pre season?

From what I have seen he has looked comfortable enough and the squad as a whole have hardly been pulling up any trees have they?

Would rather him around the side than 75k a week sanchez

One of the most bizarre fan grumbles I've ever heard. Let's sell Diop or and make a wedge shall we?

Yeah on the face of it, we doubled our money.

Can’t imagine we made serious money on him.

We probably still owed from his original move to us.

So if say that he is one that we did make money on, that’s one, in the last decade I reckon (maybe longer)

Re: Summer Transfer window rumours/discussion thread.
The Hugill signing was always strange.

However, we played him in about 2 or 3 games. I'm pretty cerain that there are 2 or 3 games where Antonio has not looked a Premiership player, yet most seem to value him as a decent squad addition now (myself included).

I'm not saying I think he's any good, just that, we don't have much to go on in the claret & blue really.

I don't bear this fella an malice, none of this is his fault.
