What John Cleese said.
As someone who was born here of Turkish Cypriot origin I do not think he said anything wrong or out of place when he said that London is not really an English city anymore.
If he meant that by looking you see less English people of it's origin than Asian Black and olive skinned peeps who were born or are children of one or two people who are not originally from England ie not indigenous, he is if we are honest quite correct.

Where he has fucked up is his second comment after, that London was the strongest city that voted remain and although that is factual how the fuck does he have a scooby if it was mostly non English people who voted to stay?, because in my own family it was 50/50 I had many arguments with them and in particular with a brother in law who had just been off the boat 20 years ago from Cyprus who said their were far too many foreigners (Irony). I have also listened to many African and Asian Londoners who voted to leave on LBC making a case for leave like mad.
So I think his first comment is pretty factual, but unless he is fucking Nostradamus his second one was slightly racist or at best (Only cos I like the big man } a comment he did not think about, probably as he lives in a 24 hour bubble where his arse is licked and kissed by Yanks and obviously Brits too and many many others from around the world.
I wanted at one point as a young teen to be English I was even told by some that technically I was but I know I am 100% Turkish Cypriot origin, but very British too, My children are aware that they are Brits and not English and are happy to tell people they are Turkish origin it does not mean anything to them if people say they are not English but to be asked where your from when you speak with an English accent, that is a bit of a cunt.

Re: What John Cleese said.
Statistically he's correct, so even his second comment can be backed up.
He's said nothing wrong.

Re: What John Cleese said.
Cleese was a West Ham fan, then decided a few years ago we had too many overseas players, and went back to supporting Bristol City, near where he was born.

Then he left the UK, for somewhere .... overseas.

If only there was a Brexit thread this could have been posted on, Hairy.

Re: What John Cleese said.
Im sure I read that when he was working in London in 1960’s/70’s that a friend used to take him to some of our games so he had a soft spot for us.
I’m sure someone on here said they saw him at Elland Rd for the 1980 FA Cup semi final replay v Everton

When he does that thing with the tree branch on the car in Fawlty Towers surely the inspiration from that came from supporting West Ham.

Re: What John Cleese said.
He’s a wealthy old man, who can choose to live where he wants (assuming he’s finished paying off the ex) but that doesn’t make his opinion or observations about London any less valid.

And it certainly doesn’t warrant him being called racist.

He's an old man who is nostalgic for a different time. He's far from the only one.

Yeah I read that, FC.

Maybe that story about being over UP is just an urban myth.

Re: What John Cleese said.
There’s that vague story of Cleese being a Hammer, or at least attending one of our games, so he’s ok by me.
