I'm hoping whoever invented VAR dies a slow and painful death personally.

VAR was excellent in that Eng v Camermaniacs game wasn’t it?
Proved that Cameroon were offside - NO GOAL & that the England player was onside for the second - GOAL

Only problem was that the ref and VAR bottled the sending off at the end.
And the one for the elbow
Oh and the one for spitting

Re: Women's World Cup 2019
VAR has been ludicrously slow.

But it has thrown a spotlight on the stupidity of the new handball rule.

That's a service to the game in itself.

Re: Women's World Cup 2019
Apart from the hand ball/penalty issues during this Women’s WC the use of VAR has been excellent as regards offside decisions.

For that reason alone it is here to stay. I keep thinking back to the outrageous offside goal that Liverpool got away with last season which cost us two points.

The penny is starting to drop with all you VAR lovers that it's going to be a load of old shit, isn't it?

What Fifth said.

Also, this effectively makes jumping for the ball illegal, unless you pogo for it.

I won't be able to watch football without getting nostalgic for my punk days

Re: Women's World Cup 2019
The rule is supposed to be about the natural silhouette of the body.
Your arm at your side close to the body should be included in that.
It’s meant to be about arms extended out wide or raised ( ie John Terry or Jamie Carragher style) trying to create a bigger target.

Sounds like the instructions for the Doris World Cup have overdone it like the keepers on the line for pens shit.
I expect like that example the Premier league will wind it back to something more realistic.
But as have said before the Premier league needs to issue some guidelines and examples of VAR in action otherwise it will be used to advantage the big teams.

I saw it and wondered how on earth the Japanese defender was supposed to get her arm out of the way of that...

It wasn't a dodgy penalty, that's the new rule.

It's the rule that is stupid in this case, not the decision.

A Very dodgy Dutch penalty...
Due to rule change...defenders have no chance if attacker kick the ball at them...
Next season will be VAR Carnage...especially against Top teams...

Spurs conceded against Liverpool with a similar penalty but none of us seemed to mind then.

I suppose we will se more of this handball stuff when the season kicks off. Rules say that any handball is a freekick. Gonna be carnage

Yep. No more teaching kids how to cross the ball anymore. No need.

So a player can get in the box and just smash the ball at an opponent's arm as it's away from the body and claim a penalty

yep, basically you will see players chipping the ball up onto the defenders arm. easier than diving

Re: Women's World Cup 2019
Just change it back.

It wasn't perfect, but the present handball rule is a disaster.
