Pablo Fornals - signed

West Ham United is delighted to announce the signing of highly sought-after Spain international attacking midfielder Pablo Fornals.

A creative, technically-gifted playmaker with an eye for goal, Fornals joins the Hammers from Villarreal, for whom he has excelled in both La Liga and the UEFA Europa League.

Fornals, who becomes the second most-expensive signing in the Club’s history behind Felipe Anderson, has signed a five-year contract, with an option of a further year, after undergoing a successful medical at Spire London East Hospital.

Just 23, the Castellon-born player has already made more than 150 senior appearances and will join up with Manuel Pellegrini’s squad after representing his country at this summer’s UEFA European U21 Championship finals.

Reminds me of Gattuso for some reason.

Sniper - that clip tells you everything you need to know about his attitude. Love the one where he jumps on the back of Haller filled with joy. Haller’s reaction to scoring? Sulky face, no celebration and a massive greenie.

I always defended Fornals as I thought, on top of his attitude, he was a technically good player with a decent football brain. Yes, he’s not Xavi or Iniesta, but he is still developing and has always chipped in with some good assists. Looks like he is still building on that and was always going to be more useful not stuck out on the wing.

Re: Pablo Fornals - signed
All the slating of him on this thread in July.
He has done nothing but graft, seems genuinely proud to wear Claret and Blue and see others score.
That one touch and goal shows he has the skill and great talent.
He can only get better with more confidence and games.

Seems like he is disliked due to being signed by the previous regime.

For 26million its about time he shines and shows his worth the little fella has talent.

Re: Pablo Fornals - signed
I really like Fornals. He's a great positive character, willing to give everything, really seems to care about winning, his team mates and the club he plays for.
I think he is determined to be a success and that means learning to expand his game and do many things not asked of him in Spain.
He's a young guy still and I always thought he was bought in to replace Lanzini a bit like for like when Lanzini was running out of contract. There is a very obvious reason why he is starting ahead of him now. Still running his legs off in the 93rd minute of the game.
He earns his starts, still has some work to do but he definitely has a football brain and playing him more central is vital to him playing through balls and appearing in space in the box. If he can improve his finishing he will score quite a few.

I get why people don't see him as the new Xavi but his impact in the last couple of matches can't be underestimated.

Enthusiastic and works hard. That goes a long way.

Good technically, too. If he were an athlete, he’d be a top player, but he’s not, unfortunately.

Re: Pablo Fornals - signed
More luck than judgement but we seem to have stumbled upon the modern 3 across the front in Antonio, Bowen and Fornals, and it looks like it works with Rice and Soucek behind, has worked the last 2 games. I just love Fornals enthusiasm

I did say he would come good eventually...just needs to work on his finishing but judging by that goal the other day maybe he is!

Dont think he is anything special.

He at least isn’t lazy

Crystal, I think he already is. I hope he keeps trying shots on goal as well, he has some Rice like goals up his sleeve and they will never come good if he doesn’t try.

Re: Pablo Fornals - signed
Just have to looknat the pass he played through to bowen to create the goal
Against neecastle, only player in our squad that would make that pass. Play him in the 10 with soucek and rice behind him and next season i really believe he will be a proper asset to the team

Better in the centre playing through balls and grafting

Maybe you’d be a little less critical if you had the job of tracking him for 90min?

Re: Pablo Fornals - signed
He is not a winger, and its wasted to play him there.
He playes there now beacuse Anderson and Masuaku is dogshit.
He certainly covers a lot of ground, but a talented young player he isnt. Ok squad player, nothing more

Re: Pablo Fornals - signed
According to Transfermarkt his whole career stats have been as follows:

Centre - 109 apps, 13 goals, 14 assists
Left - 31 apps, 0 goals, 6 assists
Right - 36 apps, 4 goals, 7 assists

I think it's fair to say though that a wide player needs more pace in the PL than in Spain, so even if he's got experience he might not be best suited to the role.

Re: Pablo Fornals - signed
I was under the impression that he mostly played on the left with his previous club? I'm not sure he is being played out of position.

Re: Pablo Fornals - signed
Must be a nightmare to track and mark him - bet opposition players love him too ;)
