Pablo Fornals - signed

West Ham United is delighted to announce the signing of highly sought-after Spain international attacking midfielder Pablo Fornals.

A creative, technically-gifted playmaker with an eye for goal, Fornals joins the Hammers from Villarreal, for whom he has excelled in both La Liga and the UEFA Europa League.

Fornals, who becomes the second most-expensive signing in the Club’s history behind Felipe Anderson, has signed a five-year contract, with an option of a further year, after undergoing a successful medical at Spire London East Hospital.

Just 23, the Castellon-born player has already made more than 150 senior appearances and will join up with Manuel Pellegrini’s squad after representing his country at this summer’s UEFA European U21 Championship finals.

His workrate and passion have rubbed off on others, Fornals is one of the reasons where we are now.

I thought he was our best attacking player v City until Lanzini came on. He also did his usual of getting stuck in and working for the team.

I'm not overly concerned with our current form. Wolves was a horrible game we deservedly lost, and Man City we had moments. Brighton is a winnable game, Chelsea we can get something out of. Come out of the next two with 4 or more points and we're doing ok.

What Manuel said in his 1st paragraph ( the bit about there not being much of player when he's off form was a bit harsh for me, though).

Fornals work off the ball in pressing / closing down, getting a foot in etc. is why Moyes will always look to play him currently. In possession he has not been as effective for sure but he and Bowen work so hard off it for the team. Better at that aspect of the game than Benrahma, Lanzini, Vlasic, Yarmalenko etc. which is why they get picked I suspect.

Re: Pablo Fornals - signed
When you know a player is giving his best, like Fornals does, they get more of a pass when their form dips. The problem is he is never going to be a world beater, even at his best, albeit he can be very good, but when he is off his game there isn't that much of a player left.

Moyes is going to be building over the next several windows, so you have to wonder if players like Fornals and Benny will be starters in say a years time? I suspect not, unless they find consistency.

Fornals hasn’t been as bad as some are making out over recent games.

He’s not been as good as before, but then neither has the whole attacking unit.

There were a few occasions today where he received the ball and used it well. Certain others gave it away more or made more errors.

He needs to improve, but they all need to, to be fair. That includes Benrahma, Bowen and Antonio.

I wonder if it might be an idea to introduce Vlasic for more game time now, now that other regular starters are having a dip. It will help him get up to speed and also might give others a kick up the arse.

Pointless discussing football, on a football messageboard.

Ok. I think his little goatee beard is wonderful.

Agree Miike, just feel that with Benrahma he still carries a goal threat when not playing well, and if he was dropped for Lanzini, pace wise we're struggling.

I know people are very sensitive to criticism of Fornals, and as I said I really like the player, but if we're honest he's had 1 really good game in the last 10, he needs to do better. Nothing wrong with pointing that out.

he's not alone, benrahma's also been poor for a few games. bowen & declan are probably the only two non defenders that have produced consistently

Bore off from talking football?

Don't be a prick. He gets lauded to the high heavens on here, are we not allowed to discuss him being shit for 3 games in a row?

He's been absolutely dire in the last 3 games (I'm including the sub appearance on Thursday) and he was pretty poor for a few games before his MOTM performance against Liverpool.

I like the lad, and attitude wise he's spot on, but he needs to improve his consistency. I'm aware his missus has just given birth, that's not an excuse.

I expect a big game against Brighton. If not, Lanzini deserves a start.

His passing has never been in question for me. His problem at first was the pace and physicality of the PL. It caught him by surprise. He was often on the floor throwing his arms up to the ref, shocked that he wasn’t getting free kicks. You rarely see him bundled over like that anymore. He’s beefed up his balance, dodges challenges and releases the ball more quickly.

He’s rapidly becoming one of the best midfielders in the land.

I've always liked him. A lot of the criticism was he couldn't pass and his passing was poor. But I watched him in the u-21 Euros and his passing was sublime in that.

Re: Pablo Fornals - signed
Fornals hasn’t made a ‘dramatic improvement’ under Moyes. He’s always clearly had the ability and been an important player, he’s just added consistency which comes with settling into a club.

I really don’t understand how some people couldn’t see what Fornals clearly brought to the team.

Goose,

Actually I am more than happy to say he has come on leaps and bounds… He has surprised me I must admit….. He is not the same player he was when he first arrived, Personally I blame Moyes for his dramatic improvement.

I wonder if you still think Moyes was a bad appointment?

Plus he’s named his son Martin apparently, he obviously has good taste in names as well as football clubs!

Love his attitude, work rate and his overall game now,,,,,,,Won’t be long before the big clubs take notice!
