Dodgy sponsors/Official Partners
In light of the furore around Socios= made me wonder whether our club is any better/worse than any other in its choice of partners and whether anyone uses them?

I have tried Betway however lost patience with the password or something and havent opened the app for years and its the same as everyone else- ie no "west ham " benefit

Sbobet were fucking useless and still owe me money

XL went bust

Basset & Gold are surely the next financial scam to crash and burn with dodgy unregulated deals

Who did I miss and does anyone else chose to use the brands our club has attached us to?

not true Crassus, for example in the world of financial services, as a seller of a product you have an obligation to do KYC (know your client) to substantiate the legitimacy of them before selling them a product. For example ensuring they are not paying with ill-gotten gains or money laundering.

For financial services this is down to regulatory requirements and also reputational damage. You would think with football clubs major source of revenue being brand affiliations that they would take considerable care as to who they are selling their boxes too.

Chester - thats not so mate
If you are buying, you would be advised to ensure it is PC acceptable in production
If you are selling, you sell to anyone as long as you aren't producing arms (oops)
The selling of a football box will be universally limited to an ability to pay

Re: Dodgy sponsors/Official Partners
Not to mention the reputational damage that most well run businesses would prefer to avoid but that obviously wouldn't apply to owners with no reputation worth having to begin with

Re: Dodgy sponsors/Official Partners
Most businesses will do some form of credit check / due diligence when taking on a new account.

Businesses that just grab a pound note without any kind of due diligence usually end up burnt along the way as was the case here when one of the boxes I refer to. ended up as a bad debt.

The owners wouldn't have the faintest idea who was buying a box. And the sales staff are hardly going to do checks on buyers!

A club sponsor and box holder at UP were a scam company selling carbon credits. Done by the City of London police and FCA. A land banking scam company was another box holder at UP. Those behind it again got done, one still in jail. Under these owners they do not give a fuck where the money comes from. These owners attract them like flies to a dog turd.

im sure there's dodgy boxes at other grounds ;-)

South African Airlines was all but done back in 97, they had the fixture cards printed I know this as did work experience there at the time. Hence the no sponsor shirt

Jiffy condoms.

It pains me to know that my team is sponsored by bookmakers. It feels like the decline and fall of the Roman Empire - appealing to the masses in their self-destructive behaviour, while contributing a big fat zero to the common good.

Anyone noticed those bizarre Pepe Chicken shop adverts on Sky in the cricket World Cup?

Our lying good for nothing cunts will have them on the shirts next you watch.

IIRC, they just had a box at UP but the press ran with it.

And also IIRC, I think it was South African Airways ;)

Betway are the worst betting company I've had the misfortune to use. Dishonesty bordering on illegality. A vile bunch who I hope go bust as soon as they stop giving us money.

Can't understand the fuss about Socios though. Just don't give them money and you still won't have a "say" in things you've never had a say in. I can't see it working myself.

Re: Dodgy sponsors/Official Partners
I'm sure Peter Storrie wanted Jiffy Condoms, could be a urban myth though.

He also pursued Nigerian Airlines, but that fell through as well. At the time leaving only two teams in world professional football without a shirt sponsor. West Ham because we could attract one and Barcelona because they didn't want one.

I received an email on Monday from Betway informing me that I am no longer allowed to make use of their offers.

So they can fuck right off.

I heard that in the time of Cearns & Brown, Ford were interested in sponsorship, until our dodgy duo asked what was in it for them...
