Ashes 2019
With the ashes nearing re commencement, I am staggered at just how accommodating the ECB are to The Aussies. They are actually having an inter team game at Southampton today they have 26 players here available for selection and we let them use one of our grounds to play on. How many f-ing Aussie players have been playing County Cricket this season FFS ? The last English player to play Sheffield Shield was Ian Botham wasn't it ? When we go there we get absolutely nothing from them, why do we not return the favour ? Totally bewildering

Completely agree. Can't believe the ECB allow this to happen, it's got to stop. Generally speaking we are less competitive out there as they are here and in part its because we dont get a chance to get used to their fast, dry conditions. Conversely over here its one of our best assets and we just give it away.

Have said before that during an ashes season no Australian being considered for their national side should be signed by counties its only giving them practice on English wickets with an English ball.

Re: Ashes 2019
Just noticed two Ashes threads are on the go. Need to lock this one I think.

There's only one Ashes, the women's Ashes is most definitely NOT the Ashes, that's just England women v Australia women. Different kettle of fish.

The Ashes are just about the only time that I do get a bit excited about England. Even then it's only fleeting but there is no denying that it is great to see those gobshite baggy green mugs suffering sometimes.

Not sure about injury status on non Essex players but if all are fit I'd go this team for first test :-

Burns
Roy
Root *
Bairstow
Stokes
Buttler
Foakes †
Woakes
Mooen
Archer
Anderson

Re: Ashes 2019
He can hold a bat but ideally he's a 9 at the very most and certainly no higher at test level given the depth of England's batting.

Six first class 50's, no century yet, and against Div 2 bowling where first change bowlers are normally nothing too exciting.

If fully fit Archer gets into the first XI every time. He has played more red ball cricket than anything else and his stats are fantastic.
OK it is was only division 2 cricket but his batting is very good. He has a Test century in him for sure.

I’m sure all touring teams are given training facilities by the local association.
Obviously in the UK the grounds are relatively close together so the touring team will base themselves at a county ground or a ground like Dulwich school say.
England Lions tour around with the England Test team and are given the same facilities.
During the 2013/14 Ashes I came across the Lions in Perth while the First Test was going on in Brisbane. They were being based in the city of the next Test & were given the facilities at the University of Western Australia.

Hampshire with their Shane Warne stand.

He played for them for a whole eight years and fucked them off for the IPL with a year left on his contract.

Arranged to play in a poker tournament held in June whilst under contract to them.

Took 276 first class wickets for them.

Won just about fuck all.

Got a stand named after him.

They have a Beefys restaurant, something to do with Botham, he didn't even play for them.

Sums that lot up.

Re: Ashes 2019
It’s 25 players
They are playing at a ground with a Shane Warne Stand
England Lions will tour Australia early in 2020 and amongst all the 4 and 1 day games they play they will play Australia A at the MCG
Mason Crane played 1 game for NSW while Nathan Lyon and Steve OKeefe were playing for Australia in India
Ian Botham played one season for Queensland and lost the Sheffield Shield Final .... and was arrested for being an oaf on the flight from Brisbane to Perth. And had to be bailed out by Dennis Lillee.

As the convicts have not even drawn an Ashes series in England, since 2001, surely it is incumbent upon the ECB to do everything possible, to make it an interesting and close series?

This is NOT going to be the official Ashes thread, with that pathetic fucking rant at the heart of it.

Fuck them and what they do, we're English, which makes us superior on every conceivable level, especially in sportsmanship.
