The whole Away tickets Ballot Debate
Where do you stand on this, it seems it seems most are against the ballot existing.

Personally don't have a problem with the ballot, gives people a chance to build points from low numbers

80% loyalty

20% lottery

Something like that seems best, in my humblest opinion.

Let's go back to the old days. Away tickets can only be bought in person from the ticket office.

I often got annoyed at my dad not wanting me to go to away matches on my own in my early teens in the 80s.

Now I know it was to avoid "Naked Ernie"

BUFFERS

Re: The whole Away tickets Ballot Debate
buffers in every sport or concerts or theatres tkts are bought and sold on usually at a huge profit
These away tkts are sold for face value so see no problem

Re: The whole Away tickets Ballot Debate
I think there is a difference between buying then having to sell on and buying to sell on.

Away tickets used to comfortably go down to (on average) 7 points. Now they're selling out at 20+ so people are (wrongly) having to buy tickets to stay at the top of the pile. I myself have done this for Man City away last season then left the ticket unused. If there was a way to ensure this didn't happen, the average sell out threshold will drop.

Side note: I would've had an AST last season but the club wouldn't pair me up with my mate as he is not corporate and therefore we are apparently on different systems. They said they would contact me at the end of the season but I heard nothing. They are apparently keeping between 150-200 tickets but for Club London members to apply by email and then go into a ballot. I dont use this system, I still use the PP as I have enough points but at least there is a back up for me, but again its wrong.

Re: The whole Away tickets Ballot Debate
have lots of tkts off here for away games always at face value always really appreciate being helped out.

Due to work cant naked every away game like I did in 80s Up to 2005 so would not get the chance to build up points.

Never seen a problem with people buying them having to sell on

surely that would be abused the same way it is currently?

the high pointers who sell on could simply post their season ticket around as normal?

Re: The whole Away tickets Ballot Debate
That needs to happen immediately.

The original plan with access cards was for away tickets to be added to your season ticket card. That must've been 15 years ago now.

Re: The whole Away tickets Ballot Debate
The bigger issue though isn't any of the "official" rules.

It's the fact that people with high points buy away tickets for almost every match and then regularly sell them on. I know loads who do this just to keep their points high. To be fair they usually sell on at face value... but it does mean that no-one can possibly build more points because people with high points just buy for every match and maybe only go to 50%.

I benefit from this by getting tickets off my mates... but clubs like Man Utd do random checks at away matches against named purchaser of tickets to stop people doing that. That may happen one day with WHU

Re: The whole Away tickets Ballot Debate
As someone who doesn’t really go away these days I have absolutely no problem with those that DO go regularly getting first dibs every time.
Obviously it’s difficult for people to build up points without points to start with but imagine many of those will want tickets for Spurs etc without putting in the hard yards in the bleak North.

Speaking as a non STH - Membership only the point is moot

In recent seasons even the most far flung games never come within grasp. Best chance for the likes of me is Villa away at 8pm on a Monday night and on the telly

Fifth Column 11:22 Wed Jul 31
Re: The whole Away tickets Ballot Debate
GIven how oversubscribed they are it will never result in people being able to build up points to extent they will then be eligible just with points. But it does give people the opportunity to get the odd ticket here and there.

First season I lost out as I was on high points but sometimes missed tickets before going to ballot by a point. So it was negative for me.

Now I can't go away regularly anyway so it benefits me.
