Noble's penalty secret
Exactly when do you make up your mind, which side you’re going with the spot-kick? My answer is always, “I’m not going to tell you, I don’t want to give goalkeepers any clues”

“What I will say is that I never practise penalties — never, ever.

Wonder if this strategy is used on passing for the rest of the team?

Never seen anyone better than Ray Stewart. Keepers trembled.

Re: Noble's penalty secret
Noble's first (maybe only) rule is not to miss the target. His penalties are not struck hard, and rarely go close to the uprights or crossbar. They give the keeper a chance, but on a percentage basis he is more likely to score than someone who tries to place the ball in a place where the keeper can't reach it.

Pretty smart move, not practising pens. With the amount of money at stake I would be very surprised if clubs didn’t somehow spy on each other at training

Apparently, that's not the reason he never practices bruuuno.

It's because the club's keepers get used to him in training so end up making lots of saves. That puts doubts in his mind so his confidence gets shaken which is not good for when the pressure moment comes in a game and it invariably is a pressure moment for WH....

Last time I was upended in the penalty box, I let the regular penalty taker take it.

He missed. Next time, it's me that takes it.

I was hoping for tips.

Nobes is starting to sound like the old bloke Grasshopper used to turn to for advice.

His new book 'How to Take Penalties and Not Miss' is hotly anticipated amongst the literary world even though it's only two pages long and one of those pages is a crayon drawing of a goal, a goalie, a penalty taker. And three arrows signifying the possible directions the ball can be kicked in.

Re: Noble's penalty secret
I just to take penalties when I used to play, ages ago.
I always spent time after regular training to practice shooting.
I ber Noble do to, to some extent.
I tried to wait as long as I could to see which leg the keeper moved first. And then made a shot on the opposite side. Usually worked.

Re: Noble's penalty secret
This is all part of Nobles Evening Standard column and he explains he doesn’t take them in training matches or friendlies.
His thinking is that mentally it works better if he only takes them when it matters.
It works for him ... think he said he has 36 from 40 ... and obviously while it does then that’s what he should do.

That said if I was asked anything tactical or technical about what I or the team was doing my standard answer would be :
None of your business

On the contrary Mullard, it's not a joke. Funny isn't it?

It's not "haha" funny, but it's a smart answer to a dumb question.

If you considered it funny, it really should have been on the joke thread.
