SOUTHAMPTON vs MANCHESTER UNITED (1230 ko)
An intriguing one, this. A couple of decent results for the Saints sees them high on confidence. But Solskjaer has a good record against them and will hope to continue that run. Should be a watchable start to the Premier League weekend. Away win. But don’t bank on it.

CHELSEA vs SHEFFIELD UNITED
Sooner or later, class shines through. You kind of feel that FLJ will enjoy success with Chelsea this season, but not without bumps along the way. Chris Wilder has done a fantastic job at Sheffield and will want to be one of those bumps. Not today, though. Home win.

CRYSTAL PALACE vs ASTON VILLA
Palace surprised everybody last week and will be high on confidence for today’s visit of Villa. But they’re nothing if not inconsistent. Villa will be strong opponents. Draw.

LEICESTER CITY vs BOURNEMOUTH
The Foxes have made a good start and expectations remain high for another high-flying season. Bournemouth always offer worthy opposition, but you feel it in your bones that they just won’t have enough today. Home win.

MANCHESTER CITY vs BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION
The biggest test of the season for the Seagulls. And, needless to say, for all teams that visit the Etihad. For City, this is a bread and butter fixture. Or should be. And will be. Home win.

NEWCASTLE UNITED vs WATFORD
Wasn’t Steve Bruce chuffed with his three points last weekend? And rightly so. But you feel there was something premature about the told-ya-so tone of his post-match comments. Many will think that Watford’s woeful start to the season will in all probability continue here today. But not so fast, amigos, for Mystic Meg sees a point apiece. Draw.

WEST HAM UNITED vs NORWICH CITY
Will this be a battle of Haller and Pukki? Two sides stronger in attack than in defence makes for a mouth-watering prospect, with chances coming like a District Line train in the rush hour. If we’re to improve on last season, this is exactly the kind of game we have to win. A reduction in our goal deficit would be a bonus. The anticipatory juices are flowing. Home win.

BURNLEY vs LIVERPOOL (1730 ko)
Cheap lager meets fine wine. A tad unfair, perhaps, on both Burnley and fine wine, but you’d be hard pressed to find a fixture of greater contrasts in the protagonists’ style. Which makes for a fascinating contest that will test both teams. Away win.

Bit early for "mini leagues", Alex's G? Surely?

Brighton, Newcastle, even Sheffield United could overtake us next fixture. As could many others.

12 games in, there'll be clearer pattern.

That said, we had a decent week. And played very well yesterday. Shame it wasn't 4-0.

The league table is already splitting into the mini leagues... Liverpool and Man City playing for the title.... Leicester, Palace, Arsenal, Everton and us fighting for the remaining European places and the rest just battling to avoid the drop!

Kane is the latest of three appalling role model to be England captain. Beckham, Rooney and now him. The job used to mean something.

I fucking hate VAR. Just another nail in the coffin of modern football, the first being the removal of terracing.

Re: Saturday football
The problem is that the following are being executed by referees:
1. Refereeing
2. VAR

Referees are incompetent cunts
Should bin the lot and go recruiting in Europe

Re: Saturday football
I can't even work out what VAR is for now. If anything refereeing has somehow got worse.

Add Chelsea to the mediocre list and there's room for a team to sneak in there. It won't be us though because we've got not CM of note and now ONE fucking forward of note.
