LInkedIn/Facebook - Moan & Rant
|
I work in marketing so I have to have LinkedIn and Facebook accounts. Here's a few things that are ticking me off right now.
1. People on Facebook who have birthdays and ask you to make a contribution to a cause. "I wasn't going to send you a card or give you a present so ... no I won't contribute to your cause."
2. Arselickers on LInkedIn who consistently post positive shit about the last trade show they went to or the company food bank outing. Work is overated and anybody who wouldn't give it up immediately after winning the lottery is a wanker or a liar.
3. People's profiles on LInkedIn that exaggerate the heck out of what they did. "Played a pivotal role in making company more efficient." Which means moving their desk closer to the break room."
4. People who post stupid sayings with a colored background about being positive on Facebook.
5. People who post political opinions on Facebook. Really, who gives a shit!
6. People on LinkedIn who"like" companies like Salesforce.
6.This trend of re-posting missing persons alert.

Right. I had to get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night half an hour before I went to bed, drink a cup of sulphuric acid, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill, and pay mill owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our Dad and our mother would kill us and dance about on our graves singing Hallelujah.
Now that were "proper" work!

Anyone who uses the term "monetising" should be flogged, put in stocks, pissed upon, made to eat shit and watch Millwall until the end of days.

Good luck to people who work in sales but I've never bought anything off a salesperson and never will. Almost everything I need to buy workwise I buy direct from the source.

I work in construction it's "proper" work. I'm up at 5.30 home most days home by 7.00 don't intend to do it much longer after paying the mortgage off. Facebook,Twitter and all other forms of "social media" bare no relevance in my industry, success is based only on results. I don't and never will understand how being a busy fucker on Twitter or similar can be of any use financially.

My present job is selling an automated tool that gets sales leads from the LinkedIn platform. The company launched last November and we already have close to 1,500 clients paying on average 170 bucks a month, most brought on by a sales force of two people.
We've recently taken on four more sales staff and two more customer service agents and are growing at a ridiculous rate.
My point is LinkedIn works. It's why Microsoft bought it and are now monetising it for all it's worth. There are now LinkedIn universities!
Yep, lots of twats and arseholes, just like life, but if you're in marketing or recruitment it's an essential platform.

Never needed Linkedin, I would guess some people do.
Facebook is my far-flung (Australia, across North America, Europe including here) family's method of keeping in touch. Also fun to look in on what friends in past lives are doing.
Some people use it like this site, not ever been my thing but each to their own.

I agree. It's pleasing to be in a position to say to recruiters a polite 'no thanks right now, but please keep in touch'.
Never know when it will be handy.

Facebook lost its appeal to me (and most other younger people who adopted it pretty early on after MySpace, hardly anybody my age i know uses facebook regularly now, all moved over to Instagram/snapchat) when people the age of their parents started signing up. They have as much internet awareness as a dog. Beliving and sharing any old shit they read on the internet and taking it as gospel. Has lead to social and political mess we are in at the moment IMO. I could do without my uncle sharing fake news and made up stats from Leave.Eu everyday.
Although, I did find the Britain First page quite fun (scary). an unhealthy mix of Jesus,Crusade and racist pictures. supported by absolutely mental comments.

Its ok, Kaiser. My reply was more directed to Mike Oxsaw who was kind of suggesting that it doesn't have a purpose.
That's kind of how forum threads work - not everyone is always replying to the original poster. But thanks for your valuable input and joy for my elevated status nevertheless.

Whilst no doubt most are overjoyed with your elevated status, I think you’re missing the point. He’s not suggesting LinkedIn doesn’t have a purpose.

I’m in the job market for the first time in 10 years and I can’t understand what people are talking about in half the job descriptions. Entire sentences made of buzzwords, it’s like it’s in fucking code. A million different words for ‘client’. Mysterious jargon known only to whomever wrote the ad. Plain English seems long gone

As a marketer I use Facebook, LinkedIn and one or two other platforms to promote healthcare services. I live and work in California so healthcare is in the private sector. All the above are great marketing tools.
From a personal perspective I loathe the "virtue signaling" the "humble bragging." Overweight ex- colleagues with whom I am connected, post photos of themselves in their company T-shirts making peace signs at some wanky trade show.
My intelligence is being insulted. Then everybody piles in saying how great the events was or how amazing the company they work for is.
Maybe I do need to change careers.

"Facebook has meant I can stay in touch with people that I met while living abroad"
Yeah, that old chestnut, peddled out by everyone these days.

Serious question.
I use FB as a sort of hub for groups and stuff related to my interests and have no connections at all to dull people talking about themselves or their lives. I never see selfies or any of that bollocks. It's like several forums in one place.
Does nobody else do this?

The irony being is that this site is technically a form of social media.

My current employer found me on linkedin. I now have a job that I enjoy a lot more and is a lot more rewarding than my previous role.
I get contacted at least 3-4 times a week with new roles which is good in case things don't work out where I currently am.
Linkedin serves its purpose.

I tend to shun all social media as it's too intrusive for my likes. I did have a LinkedIn account in 2006 but even then only used it for a couple of weeks; it offered me nothing I couldn't get elsewhere. I may have a Twitter account somewhere but no clue to it's name.
My family are all on Facebook, but even that is no reason. E-mails/phone calls work. What we chat about has stack all to do with the rest of the world.
