It doesn't really matter if Moon was technically proficient or not. As a musician, he was absolutely unique and a drum genius.

Yup I'm with you on that mallard... but it worked in the Oo'... with spades on... not sure it would have done in any other group mind you??

Re: Ginger Baker RIP
Okay, okay - fair enough. I was trying to emphasise the respect Baker received from other drummers.

Personally, I never thought Moon was technically gifted. Reni is absolute mustard

Re: Ginger Baker RIP
If Keith Moon was still alive, he along with Reni would tell you Baker is the greatest drummer ever to have lived

Errr.. I said I preferred them mallard you old scrote... not who was better... I imagine if you asked crusty old soak Ginger who he thought was teh greatest of all time he would probably put in a word for Phil Seaman, Elvin Jones and Art Barkley... regarding Reni... I know his early days he modlelled himself on Moonie... Townsend tried to nab him before the SR's even got a record deal as he was the nearest drummer he ever saw to the Loon...

Re: Ginger Baker RIP
Met Ginger, back in the 70s, when I was in NY.
A bit weird, but a nice bloke and he really opened up, when he found out that I was a neighbor of Jack. A great quote , from a local TV chat show.......
After praising Jack Bruce, he was asked about Eric Clapton. “Great shame about Eric. He could have been really good, if he hadn’t kept messing around with that pop stuff.”

Re: Ginger Baker RIP
I've only really ever liked 2 drum solos.

Ringo on The End is good, though, at 25 seconds, is perhaps somewhat over-long.

Kenney Jones on 'I'm Losing You' is good too, though I can usually only manage the first minute or two.

You can shove ever other drum solo ever recorded or played live right where the sun don't shine.

Oh God, don't remind me.
I played with a drummer who could play the live version note for note (not that we ever let him do it at a gig; we had more respect for the audience than that)
..

Nothing, but nothing, can make amends for the monstrosity that is 'Toad'. The 15 minute lump of mind-numbingly boring self-indulgence that inspired a million, billion, gazillion other lumps of mind-numbingly boring self-importance.

I have been a massive Cream fan since '67 when I bought Disraeli Gears.
I was sick when Jack went, not so much Ginge as he was a bit of a head case, but despite that he was a truly brilliant basher.
RIP Ginger.

Re: Ginger Baker RIP
Watched the documentary, came across as arrogant, rude and anti-social, full marks for the reporter who stuck with the abuse Baker gave him, but worthwhile to get an insight in to Ginger Baker's world.
