Security checks coming from West Ham station
Just a query for those with more experience.

Normally, due to the side of the ground I enter on, I walk from Hackney Wick. I also typically arrive fairly early, around 1.30pm for a 3pm kick off for example. Security on the bridges can be variable, but has never led to delays that were more than mildly inconvenient.

On one occasion last season I walked from Stratford, never again. I've also walked to and from Bromley by Bow a few times when there have been engineering works, although the last time was walking back in the rain after the thumping against Brighton and so I now consider that route cursed.

Anyway due to unexpected train issues today I ended up getting into West Ham and walking along the Greenway, getting close to the stadium with only about forty minutes to go. I then got stuck in a barely moving queue going through security, and got to the checkpoint with fifteen minutes to kick off. At which point a chap in high vis pushed in and beckoned over a young lady and 'taught' her in all of ten seconds how to do the checks - you wave it up like this, and across like this. He then disappeared. She proceeded to check me, the wand beeped but as she hadn't been told what to do in that case she waved me through anyway. I tried to show her my bag but seemingly sue didn't know what to do about that either and so completely ignored it. Surely fifteen minutes before kick off is not the time to throw trainees into the mix, for us or them or for security.

I finally got in just as the bubbles were going off. Probably my third latest arrival at my seat in more than twenty years, and whilst West Ham aren't responsible for the deficiencies of London Overground at least on those previous occasions there was the excuse that it was a stadium with old-fashioned turnstiles and the like which as we all know at times struggled to cope with the numbers towards the end. This, however, is supposed to be an ultra modern stadium designed for large crowds and apparently offering quicker entry and exit. Well not today it didn't.

I never intend to take that route again, and so it makes no real difference to me - but I was wondering whether for anyone who does, is this a regular issue? Or was it perhaps a one-off due to increased numbers of people forced to go the same way due to similar issues with trains? Because if this is the way the system 'works' regularly then it definitely needs addressing and I feel that I may just have discovered one more reason for disillusionment with the new stadium of which I was not previoisly aware. It was an absolute fiasco.

They still forgot to send our season tickets out v palace so couldn't get through the turnstiles with the old season ticket which had expired, had to queue up at the kiosks and they printed off tickets. Shambles, you have to get through security well before kick off, which means they sell more shit Skol or heneiken beer at £6 a pint food, shirts. Soulless shithole, atmosphere crap as they've split everyone up, team bang average, £25m net spend for last 5 seasons will be lucky to stay up. Only been to one game just not enjoying it. Have to have a few beers before and after to suffer it, but the beer is shit and expensive standing outside in the elements. I miss the days rolling out of the Boleyn or Queens just before kick off. Now the walk is too far to the stadium and too long to get through security. I'll be there for the barcodes, but the owners have killed it for me, noting will change until they sell, which won't happen for approx 4 more years which is depressing. They will replace me after 46 years with one of there happy clappers so all good.

At Everton last week was searched and waved through in seconds. Well organised given the little space they have to work in.

Our place is a fucking shambles. Q for 10 minutes in the pissing rain to be wanded back and front before being waved through.

I now cycle into where the raspberry buses go. Lock the bike to the stand, and straight up the lift and the F turnstiles are right there in front of me. No problems.

Bruuuno,

Not walk from West Ham again? No skin off my nose. But controversially I am one of those people who don't just view things in terms of how they affect me, and I am interested in the collective experience of my fellow fans.

So fucking shoot me.

Had my best search so far today. Got to the bloke, he touched my sides above my hips, said "beep", then stood aside.

Took me 40 mins to get through the queue. Came from Stratford underground way, fucking disgrace. I walked in 10 seconds before KO, but the queue behing me was massive so I imagine loads of fans missed KO.

Re: Security checks coming from West Ham station
Before the match the security queues for the east stand were backing up, even the disabled queue, which flows normally quite quickly. The security staff were being particularly pedantic for today’s match.

However, after the match we were held back at the intersection that goes back over the bridge towards Stratford station. We were held there for about 15 - 20 minutes by a line of police whilst the Sheffield fans shambled past. The irony was, when we were finally allowed through, we all met up and intermingled with their lot at the queue for Stratford station in any case, it was a complete shambles.

Re: Security checks coming from West Ham station
There were rumours going round that sheffield united had planned on bringing a firm down

presume it was because of those rumours, definitely more security than normal today on all the bridges of entry
