Anyone had this happen with a holiday booking?
Booked a holiday tonight but at the end of the process I got the message - "Sorry, there was a problem placing your booking" and it could be my card or their system. It's a new credit card so I rang the CC company who said that the payment had been refused by the merchant so I would need to speak to the holiday company and said no money had left my account. However as I put the phone down I received email from the holiday company saying my booking had been confirmed. Have checked it and it clarifies all has been paid for and I have all the relevant paperwork and the payment shows up in payments,.

I'll have to call the holiday company tomorrow but it's all rather strange, how can the merchant not accept the payment but then confirm the booking?!?!?!?!

TUI is German owned. It doesn't give a shit about Brits these days, and it gives even less of a shit if things go wrong. Avoid.

Further system error is that your destination is the Moon, and you've accidentally become the first lunar space tourist.

Views are magnificient, food is shit and booze non-existant.

Thanks fellas. Popped into TUI and it ended up being an online system error. Paid over the pho0ne and all sorted.

Sometimes they are doing a sort of identity check to make sure that the name on the booking matches the name on the card used to pay. What they do is put through a block for a nominal amount (£1) which is taken off your available credit but not treated as a payment. When they are happy that you've given the correct details, they cancel that transaction and put through a proper one for the full amount.

Happened several times with me. In fact, I'm in the UK at the moment - have been for a few days and the flight payment has yet to show up on my credit card statement.

Last time I was in the Netherlands, the cost of my hotel stay didn't appear until I'd got back to the Middle East - in fact, I'd paid that one off before it was deducted and in the process earned some sort of prize for being in credit.

And I wouldn't want you to confuse it with my Cricket World Cup Final ticket, of course.

It wouldn't have made sense if I'd said "a recent purchase" ;)

It'll appear. Some of my transactions appear immediately, but I noticed my Rugby World Cup Final ticket was a pending purchase of one yen until after I got back from Japan.

It'll change, I'm afraid. But check your flight confirmation reference with the airline to make sure it's booked.

Re: Anyone had this happen with a holiday booking?
Problem here is it says on my CC account that I've got two pending transactions - one for Mail/Phone Order and the other for purchase. The description is the same. The CC company said that means payment went through but was then declined by the merchant, but the booking has been confirmed by the travel company with itinerary, payment log, and atoll certificate all showing.

The Mrs is wondering if that means it's a free holiday, but someone will notice it sooner or later but I'm wondering if it's still worth me asking if it's possible when I ring them later for a free upgrade as I'm reporting it like a decent honest chap/or a total mug of course since this isn't my fault!!!!

This happened to me yesterday with a new credit card, said it hadn't gone through contact my card people, was about to ring them but it showed transaction had gone through, wasn't a holiday booking but the circumstances were the same.

What's the company? Sounds like everything's ok now, right? It was just weird for a while.
