Justin Fashanu tokenism
Fashanu is being inducted into the football hall of fame, this is tokenism at its worst. If he hadn’t killed himself to get off with child abuse charges in the States, would he have been picked for this honour ?

Re: Justin Fashanu tokenism
He was the first black player to be bought for £1m and the first footballer that I know of to come out.
Given there are about 100 male players in the Hall of Fame it seems he is leapfrogging over a lot of more deserving candidates.

Ironic that John Fashanus daughter is pushing for this as her Dads rejection and hate for Justin’s homosexuality was probably a major contributor to his suicide

she did a whole BBC documentary about him and gay footballers so no surprise

Re: Justin Fashanu tokenism
Its in Manchester.. hall of fame...my arse...John Fashanu was only famous for the goal he scored against Liverpool, being a black player in a time when racism was rife and a homosexual who never came out whilst playing football.

If that gets you into the hall of fame then it needs to be a fucking big building..

Re: Justin Fashanu tokenism
Does anyone remember the Eddie Chapman testimonial around 1987/88? I went to the game and luckily had tickets in the Directors Box. I went up to him and asked him for his autograph, I thought he was his brother John they looked so alike. He corrected me and said, no I'm brother. He was watching the game with no other than Michael Cashman who at the time played 'Colin' in EastEnders. I still have the signed programme at home somewhere they both signed. Of course he should not be in the Hall of Fame unless it is for the goal for Norwich v Liverpool.
