What Team Did You Watch Before West Ham
|
QPR, a night game when I was 12 against Bristol city. Remember it like yesterday April evening I went with a neighbour in his Vauxhall viva he was farting and chain smoking roll ups, Dave Cash on the radio, parked up and walked through the white city estate and past the Astro pitches. Rangers won 3.0 and I’d enjoyed my 1st game. Next season went to Upton Park with some bigger boys and was hooked Never looked back.

My football team manager had links to Orient and he took us over there to watch a game, we were 7 or 8 years old .
It was against Preston . 2-2 was the score.

None. But when I started going on my own at around 13 my best chum at the time was an Arsenal fan and he use to come to some games with me, so in turn I went to some Arse games with him. Recall 1 time we went to both in 1 day with one being an early KO. A few years later he converted into a full time Iron, and is still going home and away to this day.

As a kid, I used to watch, both West Ham and Clapton, at the Spotted Dog ground. A few years later, I was playing for them.

First game I saw was Charlton v Bury. Old third division I think.
My cousin took me a Charlton season ticket holder.
My memory isn't clear but maybe involved Paul Walsh and Derek Spence

Barking, Grandad took me to see them play Spurs in a pre season game at the old Vicarage Field ground ( been a small shopping mall for docks now ). Len Duquamin scored for Spurs and that season they won the league.

Used to go to Waterford United as a kid and see the great Alfie hale. In those days they were good and used to get into Europe . Saw Hertha or Union berlin , Upjest dosza who was good in those days , celtic and Man U . probably lost those games about 2-20 on aggregate but great nights.

My nan was a Spurs season ticket holder so the first game I went to Spurs v Notts County around 1981. Pretty sure John Chiedozie was playing for County at the time.
First West Ham game was also at Spurs, the 2-0 win in 1983.

Harwich and Parkeston v West Ham United
Oct 1968
If memory serves, 0-2.
I remember it for one other thing, I was a nipper in those days and met my 'hero' Geoff Hurst. He refused to give me his autograph. Will always be grateful for him winning us the World Cup but never meet your heroes, eh?!

Went to 1976 Charity Shield Southampton V Liverpool as a nipper. Dad brought me a West Ham rosette from a seller outside Wembley but wouldn't let me wear it until we were on the coach home.

First pro (ish) game :
Almost local team called the Brickmen (sponsored by a furniture store called the Brick Warehouse)
Craig Forrest was on their books briefly and later I found out that Justin Fashanu was there in games I saw a few years later.

My first two WH home games and first away were all Swindon. I thought it was near London (along with Blackburn) until the coach took a long time to get there.

First ever game...
1981... Swindon Town 0 - 1 Wimbledon
Pretty sure Wally Downes scored the only goal. Awful game. Pissed down.

I got free tickets for restricted view seats at selhurst park when I was in Cubs
I couldn’t tell you who was playing as by ‘restricted’ they meant ‘sat right behind a fucking massive concrete pillar’
A few mates had palace season tickets at school so I went to a few of their games - more than perhaps anyone would want to!

Dad took me to Tottenham - 1962-3 I think, they were winning everything then. I remember the programme - featuring Dave Mackay, Danny Blanchflower, John White, Cliff Jones et al. I was 9 and all I can remember was being precariously perched on top of a wall and thinking I would fall off every time the crowd roared. A year later he took me to Upton Park and that was it for me.
