Re: Chris Ross The East End Poet
Yeah that was it.

Anyway many of his leanings would have snapped it up like a hypocrite. He stuck to his principles so fair play to him

Re: Chris Ross The East End Poet
Zephania is no better or worse than 90% of poets.

Rate him for not accepting a knighthood.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks Zephaniah is utterly shit and stealing a living. No prizes for guessing why his risible dribblings are lauded. He comes across as a sweet chap, but his poetry makes me wince.

Re: Chris Ross The East End Poet
My favourite poet laureate of all time as many of would already know is Benjamin Zephaniah who should be well known to our Guardian-reading class WhOer here. At one time he was on the short list for the Poet Laureate, but was narrowly pipped by another scribbler.

Zephaniah's 'poetry' has entranced our intellectual world. Here is an example of one of his earliest pieces to come to notice:–

De day dat
I met Lady
Di
I was
Happy. No
I tell a lie.
I had a pain in my belly
I would not fart near royalty.

In a Sunday Times article about Zepheniah on the 30th November, it was stated of him that:–

'Hailed as an exciting political poet, he stirred up controversy with work such as 'Dis Policeman Keeps on Kicking Me to Death':–

Some of us will fight dem, we fight dem,
some of us fight back,
informers will sleep wid you
den stab you ina yu back
dis régime is racist we know
dis régime is bent
dis régime is like a worthless penny
dat's unspent

'He was embraced by the liberal intelligentsia and right-on broadcasters who savoured the whiff of dangerous street authenticity he brought to the studios. He has received the accolade of appearing on Desert Island Discs, Parkinson and Question Time.

If you've never heard of him, that's your loss I'm afraid, but all your kids will have and have been e̶d̶u̶c̶a̶t̶e̶d̶/̶t̶a̶u̶g̶h̶t̶/̶conditioned to accept him as the best Britain has ever had to offer the world of literature since Roger Hargreaves, possibly .

Re: Chris Ross The East End Poet
I wandered lonely as a clown
With boots so high not espadrilles,
When all at once I soaked the crowd,
My squirty flower - a daffodil;
Beside the lions, beneath trapeze,
They killed and ate me. My demise.

Fuckin' doddle this poetry shit.

Sounds excruciating, to be honest.
