This bullshit way of working out points
Utterly flawed
Whatever method they use it doesn’t take into account what teams they have left to play
For instance, one scenario they may use has Bournemouth overtaking us
However, Bournemouth picked up 9 points earlier in the season from the teams they have left to play,
We picked up 13 from ours
No doubt in my mind whatsoever though that they’ll go with this and relegate us

how the fuck can any system relegate anyone that is not in the bottom three ! not a hope in hell of that surviving any legal challenge .

I swear some on here hate the owners more than they love the club.

Re: This bullshit way of working out points
How about if we promise to sell Declan Rice to whoever votes for us to stay up?

You know, like the way the fans asked Liverpool supporters to display a GSB flag out?

That'd be fair, wouldn't it?

Re: This bullshit way of working out points
In essence, teams are getting a vote on who they would prefer to go down.

That is the only factor that will come into it when each club casts its vote in this process. They won’t admit it, they will say that they voted for *insert ludicrous scheme here* because it was ‘fair’ and the ‘best sporting decision‘, but their sole motivation will be who stays and who goes.

For that reason alone, the process itself is ridiculous. You can’t decide a league based on who the other teams want to be in it.

The least worse option is to void the season.

Re: This bullshit way of working out points
Don’t be ridiculous.

The entire PL gets to vote on what happens, it’s impossible for one club to force the others into something.

If liverpool werent top and close to their first PL title, it would have been null and void by now.

Re: This bullshit way of working out points
Keep it (relatively) simple.

Scrap the season.
Relegations - all scrapped (except Bolton who drop to L2)
Promotions.
Prem: 2 from Championship (Leeds & WBA), Prem to have 22 teams for one season, then 4 down and 2 up).
Ch'ship: 2 from L1 (Coventry & Rotherham): stays at 24 teams.
L1: Bolton relegated. 3 Promoted from L2 (Crewe, Swindon & Plymouth) stays at 24 teams.
L2: Bolton from L1, top 2 from Nat League promoted. Stays at 24 teams.

While we're at it. Drastically reduce number of teams qualifying for Europa League - say by around 50% reducing qualifying games.

There is no perfect solution, but this, at least, goes some way to reflecting merit.

Of course it has flaws, every system does, that's why I favour finish or void.

BigLump 9:03 Wed May 20
Re: This bullshit way of working out points
but that has its flaws.

Some would have played all - some very few, PPG would only create more problems - and legal challenges.

Re: This bullshit way of working out points
Split the league into 3 sections, 7, 7 and 6 (the bottom 6 are a little detached)

Work out each team's points per game thus far, based on performances against teams currently in those mini league (yes teams go up and down the league, but got to rank remaining games some how). This gives a points per game achieved against different strength teams in the league. Apply those points per game, to the remaining games you each club has, against each team from the mini leagues.

I don't know if this has been suggested or calculated already, can't be bothered to look.

Not that I favour any projective basis. Finish the league (when ever) or void it

Re: This bullshit way of working out points
As has been said, its going to boil down to money.

PL will be shit scared of relegating anyone without at least playing the games - that certainly wont happen, so all this talk of PPG is nonsense.

On the subject of playing games behind closed doors which is of course the only way it'll get finished, the likes of Villa and Bournemouth will kick off and use it as a stick to threaten the PL with.

My view as it stands - the PL will cave in, and ask the teams to finish the season and remove relegation - possibly having two to go up and no play offs. Its the lesser of two evils in terms of legal action risk and will manage a 22 team league back to 20 in time.

I just think it looks so OMINOUS for us.

Looks like we'll be playing Championship football next season :(

Re: This bullshit way of working out points
This has always been a standard management tactic in business... decide what outcome you actually want, then put together a plan to achieve that outcome, whilst making it look as though it's a random outcome from a random process.

Wouldn't be the first time we've been stitched up, would it now..?

Re: This bullshit way of working out points
If you are to use some version of PPG when a season is 3 quarters done it has to take account of who you have played and who you still have to play.
We have played Man City and Liverpool twice and several teams at the bottom havent.
The result is that unless that is taken into account our expected results against Watford & Villa at home are based on our games v the top two.
And vice versa for someone like Brighton who have their games against Liverpool and Man City based on their results against Norwich and Watford.
It’s complete nonsense obviously

Re: This bullshit way of working out points
WPPG or PPG, both are going to be a massive clusterfuck.

The only way to make it fair for all, is to cancel and void the whole season, or they have to play every single fixture and complete the seasons before the UEFA deadline.

Good luck with that.

New Jersey.

Still deciding. There will be a play-off tournament for 4th promotion - between the 4 to 7th clubs. But there's SOME disagreement still on whether Stevenage get relegated.

So ONE league, League 2, could have winners but no loser? That's stupid.

League 1 are still arguing as it is madly tight from 2nd to 8th. Only 3 pts difference between 7 clubs. Example: Wycombe currently 8th but have a game in hand on all above that matter . Win it, and they go 3rd!

Re: This bullshit way of working out points
This could work out well for me.

I’m looking for a way out of football and this might be the straw to break the camel’s back.

If football plumbs to this level of idiocy then I can safely give up my season ticket and walk away.
