The future of Declan Rice
I reckon he can make it to the very top.

But he should stay here for a couple of years at least and see if the club developes properly in that time. Then we will hopefully be in a better position and could more easily attract a proper replacement if he leaves.

Would be a very bad decision to sell him after this season. At least have him for next season and sign proper fullbacks and a centre defender for the first eleven. Sign Soucek and increase the depth in midfield and attack and challenge for Europe !

Re: The future of Declan Rice
I don’t think it’s cut and dried yet by any means. For one, I think he sees himself as a midfielder now, so does that rule Chelsea out?

Also, just lately we’ve not been acting like a selling club, have we? £100 million spent 2 seasons ago, then £45m on Haller. For a change we’ve shown a bit of ambition. Admittedly it’s difficult to call which way Sullivan will go next - would he really sell Rice when there’s a very real chance of relegation?

Anyway, if Declan does leave it’ll be yet another kick in the teeth for us.

If you haven’t seen his interview with Joe Cole (from BT before the Norwich game), take a look here:

https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/july/11-july/declan-rice-and-joe-cole-discuss-captaincy-pressure-being-homegrown

He’s clearly very level headed and absolutely loves the fans.

Keeping everything crossed!

The team that told him he wasn’t good enough and should fuck off?

And

He has a bit of resentment to Chelsea?

Jesus Christ.

Money not loyalty or sentiment will decide it, and Chelsea and their like have loads in their criminal owners' coffers.

I read the other day that Moyes was looking at trying to get Phil Jones in.
That's just the type of West Ham transfer they're deadwood and our young star in a swop deal and a few million back in our coffers.

He and his whole family are Chelsea fans i think

To go back there, play for club legend in Lampard and escape our circus. They will most likely be in champs league too

Oh and his best mate plays for them

Of course he'll want to go back there, i think Chelsea this summer or one of the Manchester clubs the following summer after a strong Euros. Fernandinho and Matic will need replacing.

Yea right, as if that will bother him. I am not convinced that Guardiola will see him as good enough right now. Let's see, no more guessing from me, you can continue though.

I'm so glad we've reached the next level promised under these owners.

Great stadium.

Battling for European places

Not selling our best players.

Then we wake up to reality....

He can do better
Fernandinho is 35 I think and Man City could do with centre halves that effectively play in midfield.
Especially as John Stones has proved to be a dithering failure.

IF he goes then Chelsea is his likely destination. Apart from the personal reasons listed below, Chelsea clearly will be buying new defenders.

Only way Declan stays beyond next season is if the two bobs sell up to man city type owners otherwise he's 100% gone.

Re: The future of Declan Rice
We should give him the captaincy, increase his wages to a level appropriate to an England international and refuse to sell him until he has at least 18 months left on his contract.

I agree.

As a club, we can't meet Rice's ambition. So it is best to try and get the highest price possible for him.

Our squad is a shambles and is totally imbalanced so it needs alot of investment thrown at it.

I would look to offload Rice, Anderson and Haller along with some deadwood (Lanzini, Wilshire, Masuaku, Cresswell, Balbuena & Ajeti) and then bring in young hungry players with potential from the Championship and if possible, try and mix it up with some quality Premier League players that are not part of their clubs plans.

There are some great players in the Championship that could be available (on the basis their teams aren't promoted).

Below are some examples of top young up and coming Championship players and Premier League players (that are no tinjury prone) that could be surplus to requirements.

Cash
Robinson
Kipre
Worrall
Phillips
Eze
Swift
Benrahma
Watkins

Stones
Barkley
Dalot
Wilson
Emerson
Aarons
Cantwell
Sessegnon

Re: The future of Declan Rice
Sell him to Chelsea for £80m and get four championship players of the calibre of Bowen. Just need to get the deadwood like of Haller, Masuaka and particularly Anderson off the wage bill.

Re: The future of Declan Rice
Why would he want to be here next season? He has proven to be a class act on and off the pitch. His employers, however, have proven to be the complete opposite. He is ambitious whereas his employers appear to be a directionless and unreliable rabble.
Whatever we as fans think of the club, and it is becoming more and more of an emotional tug from the past, there is no reason Declan should sacrifice his career for the love of the fans. I wish him well even if he does go to Chelsea.

Can we count on Le Tissier levels of devotion to our club?

If not, we'd better look like winning things very, very soon...

And, of course, we won't, so he'll go. If not this year, then next.

Hopefully to a big Spanish or Italian club.

Does he really want to go to Chelsea as a centre half when he's got into the England set up as a midfielder! I wouldn't
