Re: Transfer window rumours and discussion
Whether or not Rice leaves will not be a footballing but a business decision.

If the board need the cash Rice will bring in to allow them to continue functioning as a business (i.e. be able to pay back interest on any outstanding loans and cover other day-to-day costs) then he will be sold.

This is going to be a window of who-blinks-first in determining who best comes out most intact at the end of the upcoming season.

Nobody was ever thinking about buying Lanzini for 50m.

Dammed if you do. Dammed if you don’t.
Wasn’t too long ago. Some people were getting upset at the prospect of selling Lanzini for £50 million to Liverpool.

Re: Transfer window rumours and discussion
I think most are realistic to understand that these days the big teams hoover up all the best players (thank you FFP). The problem is that whenever we have a player in demand firstly we rarely get the money we should and secondly the cash gets recycled into rubbish. In reality 65 million in this window should go a long way to fixing a lot of problems and getting overall a better team. But its who you buy that matters. There’s also the not small issue that as soon as you get in a decent wedge the price of everyone you are chasing jumps. The thought that Rice can only increase in value might not be as true as it was. As always you are always at risk of a player picking up injuries that impacts the value but the new unknown is what finances are going to be like in football going forward.

With Sarri being shown the door at Juve. The odds on Rice going to Chelsea have just got a bit longer. Can’t see them flogging Jorginho now.

He’s replaceable but probably not like for like. The idea is the starting XI becomes stronger.

Having said that I don’t trust Sullivan with the process.

Vexed- rice is replaceable, give us some names who would come to us...

He ranks 1st or 2nd in the PL for everything that a CDM should be doing.

He’s the best young player in the PL in that position.

Re: Transfer window rumours and discussion
Vexed,

What gives you the impression he doesn't care about his country?

I'm assuming you mean the England the place where he, both his parents and both his maternal grandparents were born?

As far as the club goes he's a Chelsea supporter, his childhood best friend plays for them and they are in the champions league. Of course money is important but there are plenty of other reasons why he will be tempted. Plus as a boyhood Chelsea fan I would imagine playing under one of his heroes in Lampard is a big pull as well.

Re: Transfer window rumours and discussion
I don't think he's shit, I think he's overrated.

I'm sure we can find someone to give away clumsy free kicks on the edge of our box three times a game for less than 65m.

Rice leaving will put you out of your misery Vexed

England International, mega bucks transfer to a top 4 club, and all that for someone you think is shit.

Well done on this. Good laugh.

Rice will fuck us the minute he gets a sniff of a payrise. He doesn't care about the club, the bloke doesn't even care about his country for fucks sake. I just hope we wring as much money as possible out of the deal. He's replaceable.

Re: Transfer window rumours and discussion
Before COVID-19 they got about 2/3rds upfront I think.
Paid around July time, hence the bridging loan every summer to keep us going until the TV money landed.

Re: Transfer window rumours and discussion
Let him go wherever he wants to go. He deserves it. We just need to get as much money we can and bring a proper DoF.

Re: Transfer window rumours and discussion
does anyone know when the TV money is paid and how it is structured? Usually there would be lots of season ticket money going into the club's coffers at this time but that won't be the case this year so TV income is important.

I’d take £65m plus Kante and Berkley.

Re: Transfer window rumours and discussion
If Rice wants to go then we have no choice but to try and get the best deal possible.

It's all very well complaining that we are a selling club but aside from Barcelona and Real Madrid who isn't?

Liverpool were desperate to keep Suarez & Coutinho but they both wanted to go to Barca so in the end they had to get the best deal possible. Does that make Liverpool a selling club?

Same with Tottenham and Gareth Bale, Chelsea with Hazard etc.

Leicester won the premier league but still couldn't stop Kante joining Chelsea after.

I take it you haven’t seen the video posted on the Rice thread then Richy? Where he states he is a Chelsea fan and all his family is. He shows you around a room covered in Chelsea shirts and says he would love to play with mount?

Re: Transfer window rumours and discussion
The tacky Daves have never been concerned about our feelings they would sell Rice to the highest bidder Spurs or Chelsea included
