Could selling Rice make us better?
Obviously Rice is a great player but if we had an offer of between 70 and 80 million that we could use to bring in 4 or 5 talented youngsters like the lad at QPR and when we signed Bowen would that make us stronger overall?

Back in 1985 we didn't want Paul Allen to leave but got McAvennie & Ward in and we were better.

Same when we sold Julian Dicks and got Marsh & Burrows, sold Mark Ward and got Morley & Bishop and sold John Hartson and got Di Canio & Foe.

There's a good chance that if/when Chelsea come calling Rice is going to want to go anyway so can we make a positive out of it and get a better team overall?

Re: Could selling Rice make us better?
He should be aiming higher than Chelsea in any case. Lampard's not willing to listen and learn from other managers and teams. Thinks he knows it all already. Once the emperors new clothes have been pointed out he'll be another Glenn Hoddle

He’s starting to look a lot stronger than those he is competing against. Certainly in the last few games.

Re: Could selling Rice make us better?
Yeah, even if Rice goes in the end, he's more likely to be worth a lot more once he nails down an England spot and possibly becomes an England hero.

The same thing happened with Rio. If we'd been patient instead of flogging him once we got our first decent offer, we'd probably have sold him for a lot more.

It's been said before we'd all love to see him stay for one more season and think it will only see his value rise and will probably be beneficial to the fella.
He's probably the most promising young player in the league he's had to grow up lively playing for us.
I'd be gutted to see him go but wish him well.

Not with Gold and Sullivan as the manager would get a fraction of the fee for a far inferior replacement and those two greedy cunts would be quids in again.

N’er mind rice, could make a fortune selling Ice at the moment.

True, selling next summer we will likely maximise his value and no one would have any complaints.

But this is west ham

It's hardly the dildo's fault if a bid comes in. If Chelsea do bid a large amount then it blows the thing wide open. Apart from Chelsea I don't see anyone else realistically coming in for him?

Re: Could selling Rice make us better?
I’m sure he will eventually leave as an England player and probable future captain as we lack the ambition to build a proper team.
If he does request to leave I’d not allow it this season but wait one more and the Euros.
We let R Ferdinand go for £18m and a year later he was sold again for £30m.
Rice will be worth much more in a years time and we will have time to plan.

Build the team around him.

Re: Could selling Rice make us better?
As I said in the transfer thread if Chelsea make a bid and Rice asks to leave then we have no choice but to just get the biggest deal we can for him.

Liverpool didn't want to sell Suarez & Coutinho, Tottenham didn't want to sell Bale, Chelsea didn't want to sell Hazard. Leicester won the league and still couldn't prevent Kante from joining Chelsea. Are these all selling clubs as well then?

If they have bid 65 million I would just reject it and tell them it's 75 million plus a player like Hudson Odoi, Loftus Cheek or even Gilmour on loan for a season.

Re: Could selling Rice make us better?
In the short term probably so but only if we have a bid of 80M+ to reinvest. If we could use that 80M on
Ramsdale 10m
Cash 10m
Kelly 15m
Robinson 1.5m
Hendrick free
Longstaff free
Fraser free
Eze 15M
Schick or similar 20M plus

So it could be done, and that would make us a much stronger squad, but would take better negotiating skills than DS possesses . It is also FM level changes so is never a good idea. I would prefer we just say no.

Reports linking us to the Slavia Prague RB and CM. We could just go the whole hog and sell Rice and sign their entire starting eleven.

These cunts have ruined us, I'm actually surprised that they haven't been set upon by a baying crowd.

Re: Could selling Rice make us better?
With a transfer budget of £0 it’s hard to turn down £65m of pure profit on a player.

A well run club could replace Rice and improve the starting XI.
A well run club would already have 2 or 3 players in mind.

We aren’t a well run club.

Re: Could selling Rice make us better?
If you are going to sell Rice you might as well pack up the tent and give the stadium back to the shot putters and running junkies.

Should be looking to add 3 more of his quality and age and kick on.

Re: Could selling Rice make us better?
Do you honestly think we'd reinvest that amount on other players.
More than likely any deal with Chelsea would involve them shipping out the great Zouma as part of the deal.

Thing is none of us trust these cunts not to waste the money on utter shite

Re: Could selling Rice make us better?
£65m bid reported in a couple of places today.

I’m saying no but it will be hard to turn down that kind of money.
