Anderson - should we give hum another season?
I'm coming around to the idea that our Brazillian featherweight should be given one more season.

I accept he had an appalling year last year, but he's 27 and in his prime, is generally not injury prone, and in the first season demonstrated just how skillfully and creative he could be. For all the talk that he doesnt work or track back he had a high tackle and interception rate too.

On top of this we still owe a substantial fee on him and we're unlikely to recoup our money, as no one on the continent will cover his wages and pay a fat fee at the same time.

He's pretty much the most skillfull creative player at the club, and the kind of player when on form we love to see. He wasnt on form last year, but neither were many others. His brother has been intimating he remains committed to the club...so maybe just maybe we should give him one more season? It's very unlikely after all we'd get enough income to cover the money we still owe on him, and then be able to sign a player of equivalent talent.

It's not THAT long ago his form had him in the Brazil squad.

Anyone else for giving Anderson one more season?

Re: Anderson - should we give hum another season?
Anderson thrived early on when he had Lanzini; Arnautovic; Antonio around him. When he's not got that level of support around him I think he's easily marked and gets discouraged. he definitely needs to impose himself on the game more

I don’t think he works hard enough or is combative enough for Moyes.

Re: Anderson - should we give hum another season?
Anderson is not a winger and can’t not track back , that’s what Moyes wanted him to do , he’s an number 10 playing just behind two forwards allowing him to create chances , playing one up front with not benefit his style, and with Antonio switching from centre then right or left leaving no one in the middle cuts down the chances he is quite capable of creating, Moyes tactics don’t suit him or Lanzini doesn’t mean they are crap players.

Re: Anderson - should we give hum another season?
Lanzini was played for a long while by Moyes who clearly was trying to get him to play himself back into form. He didn't improve.

Anderson looks like he lost all confidence and isn't even trying.

Both started being poor under Pellegrini. Neither of those things are down to Moyes or to tactics.

Re: Anderson - should we give hum another season?
Lanzini isn’t in the team because he has lost his burst of pace and agility due to his injury.
Anderson has looked half hearted and disinterested
Absolutely nothing to do with tactics

Will the right tactics mean he is also given a new heart?

Re: Anderson - should we give hum another season?
Anderson is a good player in the right formation and tactics , he just doesn’t fit in with the negative tactics of Moyes. Same goes with Lanzini , to progress you need players that can change the game and make something happen , both Anderson and Lanzini can do that but Moyes can’t change to accommodate them.

Re: Anderson - should we give hum another season?
I'd get rid if we receive any offer of 25mil and above. He's not cut out for this league. Said it from his first few games. Still stood by it when he had half a dozen decent games last season. Can't beat a man 1v1 and technically, for a Brazilian he's not that good. Don't ever remember him whacking in a free kick, corners aren't any good but he can nutmeg someone.

Re: Anderson - should we give hum another season?
Back to OP.

Felipe has a lovely first touch. He seemed more inspired in his first season. Constant running at Arsenal and his first goal the back heel against Man U.

If our defence was tightened and we had a team playing as a team with him having more of a free reign he can be up there with the best.

Half the first 11 looked lazy cunts this year even when they should have been trying to impress Moyes.

Wouldnt surprise me he did not get much game time by Moyes to send a message to GSB.

Kick up the arse and playing winning football as a team then there is no doubt he is a good addition to our squad.

If its uninspiring playing under Moyes, imagine the players trying to be motivated playing for the likes of GSB and their constant bullshit.

Like us all Felipe was sold a dream. If miserable Moyes can be accepted by fans for a 2nd chance, then hoping Felipe can get another chance. Its not down to him we were fighting not to get relegated.

Probably right there GR. More confident capable FB’s would help a great deal. It’s the areas that need most addressing at the moment.

Glenn Rodent 12:03 Tue Aug 11
Re: Anderson - should we give hum another season?
The defence is the weakest area of the team no doubt about it.

It is crucial that Moyes addresses the left back area. Cresswell has been so poor and looks completely off the pace that you could argue we need two left backs. But I think he will come good again to be sufficient as cover at left back.

But right back and centre back needs strengthening. Johnson looks promising but we need someone ahead of him.

Diop looks shaky and that is partly because our full backs are so poor and also due to a lack of pace in centre midfield. But I think Diop needs some real competition for his place which is why we need a new face to come in. Balbuena just doesn't cut it.

It’d be criminal if G&S refused to even pony up for a solid left back. Cresswell is alright as backup but he’s the weak link in defence that was pretty poor last season.

A mish mash of other names coming into this thread, but you are quite right, LB is our biggest problem at the moment.

I expect the team for the first game of the season to be similar to the last few. Antonio up front, because he looks easily our most dangerous striker. Noble and / or Fornals at no 10. Possibly Diangana on the left.

Haller and Anderson are problems. I hate the idea of throwing away money by selling them at a massive loss and there’s no guarantee there’d be anyone interested anyway.

Thinking of a theoretical team where everyone is in good form, in a 451 you’d probably have Antonio right wing, Haller by himself, but he’d a lot of support from the number ten. Anderson in top form could give him that support.

But then we get back to the problem that neither of them are currently playing that well. Neither would probably start in the first game. So do we try to sell them and write off our losses or be patient and hope they come good?

Re: Anderson - should we give hum another season?
We do indeed have a very imbalanced squad. So many no 10s now or at least they think they are or do not have the physicality/mobility for other roles ( e.g. wide roles).

Anderson, Yarmalenko, Fornals, Noble, Wilshire, Lanzini, Snoddy. All arguably best suited to the role behind a front one or two?

Conversely no backup whatsoever if we get an injury to Rice or Soucek. in central / defensive roles.

For the wider roles, we do at least now have Diangana assuming has indeed upped his game should we get an injury or as an alternative to Bowen or does he just become our first choice left sided man. Anderson I suppose could still "do a job" there? He has a change of pace buy based on last season he wouldnt do much of a job would he?

Therein lies our biggest problem. A very unbalanced squad in midfield and then factor in the lack of any quality left back and no alternative to Antonio and Haller up top unless again we think Yarmalenko could "do a job" up there.

Until this is solved by selling a bunch of the number 10s to get some money, any money because it looks like our owners will not be putting a penny into the transfer kitty this summer. That TV cash is destined to be pocketed to prop up their wealth ?

Despite all the disagreement, good that WHOers back on football. Season starts soon! Mental.

We HAVE A GOOD SQUAD. I'm scared on here to give Pellegrni any credit but.. onwards. Moyes is a mopey twat (IMHO) but even the stupidest should be able to make our squad work.

FWIW an Eintracht Frankfurt fan I spoke to when we bought Haller suggested we might not get much out of him in his first season with us. He described him as distinctly average in his first season in Frankfurt but superb once he’d settled. I’d like to believe that but he just seems so bloody slow.

Haller should be 1st choice purely based on what we paid for him but you can't leave out Antonio in the form he has been in. Haller needs to fight for his place and prove his worth.

I can see an argument for selling Haller but I can only see us selling him for a loss. And then we will have to go out and replace him with someone else and hope they will score.more goals.

I'd like to see Moyes earn his money and work with Haller and improve his game and get the best out of him.
You would like to think that Haller will be much improved after 1 season settling in.

Haller as back up? I hope he is one of those 7-10 you see leaving.

Re: Anderson - should we give hum another season?
Taking away he’s best work when out left? That’s he’s position though, all he’s best work is done out wide. Antonio should be class as a wide man first and someone who can fill in up top.

Agreed.

I've always thought Fornals was a good player despite alot of critics on here.

I think we will see alot more from him this coming season.

I do agree that his best position is in a more advanced role but I'm not sure if his finishing is good enough.

Either way, he works hard and should definitely be competing for a first team spot.

I still think we need better players in and around the middle of the park to compete with Soucek and Fornals. I don't think Cullen is at the level required and I think Rice will be sold. Noble for me should just be a squad player and be rotated. He does a good job when he does play but not week in week out.

Personally, I'd like to see a right back, centre back and left back come in as a minimum and see Johnson and Cresswell as back up in the full back positions.

On the basis Anderson leaves I'd like to see Diangana and Holland to come into the squad and compete for a left sided position.

Bowen to fight it out with Yarmolenko on the right side.

Antonio up top competing with Haller with Silva as back up.

And in midfield, if Rice, Wilshire and Lanzini leave, then I'd like to see the Rice money go on 2 new midfielders.
A defensive midfielder, someone like Toure who is Captain of Nantes. And another box to box player like Diallo at Brest who is a bit like Kante.

We would then have 5 midfielders competing for 3 positions. Soucek, Fornals, Noble and the two I mentioned who would bring pace, energy and power into the team.

There is alot of deadwood though. Probably about 7-10 players to leave.

I think Moyes will get more out of Yarmelenko.

I'd rather have Fornals as a number 10 than Anderson.
