Guardian Rumour Mill

World Cup-winning striker Kylian Mbappé has reportedly served notice on Paris Saint-Germain that he wants to leave for pastures new at the end of this season, and the word on the French capital’s boulevards is that he would be open to joining Liverpool. News that Mbappé is playing out his notice is likely to prompt an unseemly scramble of potential suitors and Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United have also been mooted as potential destinations.

The 21-year-old and Jürgen Klopp have long had a mutual appreciation society and as recently as May, Mbappé could be seen blowing smoke up the Liverpool manager’s nether regions. “They have made winning look easy but the truth is that it is never easy,” he said of Liverpool’s performances in the Premier League. “Performances like they have been having don’t just happen. To be as ruthless as they have been would come from lots of hard work in training and from having a very good manager.”

Rumours persist that Barcelona are hell-bent on taking Héctor Bellerín on loan, in a state of affairs that will displease Arsenal fans who saw him play well against Fulham in Saturday’s season opener. A product of Barça’s youth academy who left the Camp Nou in 2011, any return of his would hinge on the Spanish club being able to offload Portuguese right-back Nélson Semedo.

Troy Deeney insists he’s still good enough to play in the Premier League and may get the chance to prove it if West Brom get their way. Despite ongoing speculation linking Deeney with a move to Tottenham, reports over the weekend suggest the Baggies are in advanced talk to bring him to the Hawthorns. Should Tottenham fail in their efforts to land Deeney, there are whispers José Mourinho and Daniel Levy may try to prise Danny Ings from Southampton. Alexander Sorloth is another frontman who appears to have piqued interest at White Hart Lane – currently on loan at Trabzonspor from Crystal Palace, the Norwegian scored 30 goals last season and more recently bagged a brace in his country’s emphatic 5-1 Nations League win against Northern Ireland.

Burnley are also in the market for a striker and have made an £8m offer for Mainz’s Swedish international Robin Quaison. Meanwhile at Villa Park, Dean Smith likes the cut of Lyon winger Bertrand Traoré’s jib but has seen Aston Villa’s £14m bid for the former Chelsea player rejected.

And finally, Manchester United are in the market for a left-back and may be tempted to pay the £18.5m Porto want for Alex Telles. The Brazilian scored 13 goals and provided 12 assists as his club won the Portuguese title last season and said last month he was hoped to play out the final year of his contract and leave for free next summer, but Porto are determined to make some money by selling him now and have recently lowered their asking price.

West Brom News

West Brom want to sign another West Ham player, 23-year-old one of Bilic’s top targets – report

West Brom manager Slaven Bilic is eyeing up West Ham attacker Xande Silva, according to the Telegraph.

The newspaper claims that Bilic is “determined” to sign a new centre-forward before the transfer window slams shut next month and Huddersfield’s Karlan Grant and West Ham’s Silva are reportedly his top targets.

Silva, 23, has made just two first-team appearances for the Hammers since joining them from Portuguese club Vitoria in 2018.

It looked as though he was going to be the next big thing at the London Stadium when within days of joining the London club, he scored a stunning four-minute hat-trick in a Premier League 2 win against Tottenham.

As good as the former Portugal Under-20 international did in West Ham’s Under-23s, his march to the first-team was halted by a serious bowel issue, which led to him having surgery and missing a good chunk of last season.

Silva is fit again and scored three goals in three Premier League 2 matches last term before the season was called to a halt due to the coronavirus pandemic – but is he good enough to help West Brom avoid relegation from the top-flight?

Silva can play as a striker but he’s very much seen as a wide player and that, coupled with his lack of experience, suggests to use that Bilic is kidding himself if he thinks this is the forward who can stop the Baggies suffering instant relegation back to the Championship.

Huddersfield’s Grant scored 19 goals last season, is a natural striker and also has Premier League experience.

Grant’s bound to cost more money than Silva, who’s in the final year of his contract at the London Stadium [transfermarkt] but you have to spend the money in order to improve the squad and we don’t see how Silva can offer something the Albion attack doesn’t already have.

In other West Brom news, Richard Keys has tipped Bilic to leave The Hawthorns before Christmas.

West Ham United keen on Chelsea’s Emerson Palmieri and Arsenal’s Sead Kolasinac

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, West Ham United are planning to invest the money from Grady Diangana’s sale to West Bromwich Albion in the defence this summer, with targets under consideration at centre-back and both full-back positions.

Manager David Moyes wants to strengthen the left-back department, and he has Chelsea’s Emerson Palmieri and Arsenal’s Sead Kolasinac on his radar.

Aaron Cresswell wasn’t impressive during Saturday’s 2-0 loss to Newcastle United, failing to utilize the chances when presented with good crossing positions, and the Hammers could do with an upgrade – something Arthur Masuaku isn’t.

Emerson is surplus to requirements at Chelsea following the arrival of Ben Chilwell, while Kolasinac is no longer getting much game time at Arsenal after the emergence of Bukayo Saka and the versatile Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina international has proven to be a reliable performer for the Gunners since his arrival in the summer of 2017, weighing in with 13 assists and five goals in 105 appearances, and West Ham could do with him in their squad.

Emerson, 26, has played just 55 games for Chelsea since arriving from AS Roma in the summer of 2017, but the Italy international has the potential to be a quality player if given more chances to impress.
