Moyes wants new balls for training
|
This reported on Sky https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/12137163/moyes-wants-new-balls-for-training
But I am sure I heard neuropathologist Dr Willie Stewart ( the main researcher in this area) say that the problem was not so much the weight of the ball but the speed of impact.

Well, he is a man of a certain age and it must be annoying on the training pitch if his TESTICLES are flopping all over the place. Maybe needs to wear some tighter underpants and then maybe have the scrotum tightened up surgically in the off season.

He needs to get out the Stuart Sturridge Minerva balls from the 80's.
If you hit those bad boys in the sweet spot they were absolute rockets. They were true and didn't swerve all over the shop.
I was very good at set pieces long range shooting.
Ahhh! eusebiovic reminisces...

Like any disease there has to be a medical reason as to why some suffer and some don't. Geoff Hurst and Roger Hunt probably headed as many footballs due to both being strikers but, at the moment anyway, they seem to be ok.

Are not the words "for training" superfluous?

Or just do a complete study of every player from every allardyce team compared.

Probably one aspect the experts could look at is are players from other European leagues suffering in the same numbers as British players, as their football over many years was played on the floor a lot more then our style of football.

If you were saving "shots" in the Chicken Run they were well off target. Was CFC doing the shooting? :)
But you are right the ball travels so much quicker today and according to the experts, this could cause more damage. Also from what I have read the frequency of heading is another factor in the likelihood of causing brain damage. Thus less heading practice must be the future.
And it can't be far off from the FA bringing in similar procedures for head injuries in football to those in Rugby, were players are replaced while an assessment is made on potential head knocks.
As someone who played a lot of football back in the day and headed more than enough balls, it makes me worry every time I can't find the car keys or remember a name, but too late now though.

Even in the 90s - early 2000s, those Mitre balls became bowling balls when wet. No wonder those old boys heading the leather lase up balls are suffering now! They are a lot lighter now, the impact is more of a sting than a thud.

To be fair footballs are a lot lighter these days but a full pelt shot really does travel ! I've saved a couple in the Chicken Run and no way would I have liked to head the fecker !!
Wet leather laced up balls inprint on your forehead !! nah I won't go there :-)
