My apologies EXILE or others who start this but I'm the manager now Moyes has been sacked for that and recent performances
The best and only positive from the Brighton game was Ben Johnson. Solid,good work rate ,intelligence and a goal from a wing back. I've been saying it for a while and now you can see what I mean.
He will surely grow in confidence with every game and should be a sure bet for the next couple of games.
Bowen looked knackered,his lack of wanting to put the ball across from corners showed this. I'd rest him for this game. We have Fornals and Benrahma to play in a front 3 as well as Yarmolenko. We need fresh legs against Southampton to help out Rice and Soucek who can't be rested for this.
I also think Diop needs to come in to give Balbuena or Ogbonna a break too.
As for up front Yarmolenko can't play on his own there as he's even lazier than Haller if there could be anyone. He's better as an impact player. If nothing is happening with Haller then Yarmolenko comes on at half time.
I'm also not sure on Fabianski's fitness level with his kicking foot. I would like to see us buy the Czech keeper we have been linked with,Ondrej Kolar. Fabianski keeps his place,just.

The same team as Brighton except for Lanzini in for Noble is what I think Moyes will start with unless there are any knocks or niggles from Sunday in which case it is anybody's guess as to what names will be on the team sheet.

Strangely enough, the justification for Sunday (from the Moyes' mouth) was trying to shore up the midfield so Bowen and Haller could play closer together up front.
He said it didn't work (obviously) and so I expect a variant on what were doing before.

Pretty sure he will bring back Fornals, other than Snodgrass not sure who else plays on the right if we want to rest Bowen. I guess you could try Yarmalenko in the middle and Lanzini on the left and Fornals on the right.

Antonio not ready yet.
Lanzini minor groin strain against Chelsea, but they're still treating him cautiously. On the bench?
Benrahma, as before. On the bench?
Walcott often seems to do well against us, so he needs looking after.
The Saints haven't been great at home.

RE starting lineup for Southampton, I don't expect much change from Moyes. It's not his nature.
He discovers "new ideas" - back 5/wingbacks, Antonio as striker - by accident, it seems. I have little faith in him doing anything but plod and hope.

Afoloyan was on loan recent seasons at Oldham and Mansfield.
Says he learned a lot under Paul Scholes at Oldham. Main thing, presumably being, Scholes didn't want to re-sign him for another 6 months.
1 goal in 16 appearances in League 2 over 2019-2020. He's 23 now. When do we say: "new Freddie Sears", Hugh? Too early?
He's quick, though, and has studied engineering online. Could be useful in remote project management of Portakabin repairs...

He's a striker has been playing well with the u23's but their results haven't been that good apart from the cup games,strangely enough against League 1 opposition. Does look quick though.

blueeyes - I suppose he doesn't want to throw a complete rookie into the mix. If I remember correctly, I don't think Afolayan even featured in any of the Carabao games earlier in the season. I may be wrong but I don't get the impression he's been pulling up trees for the U23s either.

If we were going rest a couple of players we probably should have done it against Brighton, instead of being frightened of a team that’s had two wins all seasons. We’ll probably need a full strength squad against Soton.
