Search and rescue operation in Indonesia after contact was lost with Boeing plane
|
ICON IS CORRECT BECAUSE OF TOP GUN (-:
A search and rescue operation is under way in Indonesia after contact was lost with a Boeing 737-500 plane on a local flight.
An Indonesian Transport Ministry spokesman said the Sriwijaya Air flight SJY 182 was flying from from the capital Jakarta to Pontianak City.

This sums up the 737 Max fiasco nicely. The 737 that crashed today is pretty ancient and run by a newish low cost airline so the cause will be something else.

Pedro, i think we’re saying the same thing, per the WSJ , the Journal reported that Boeing engineers found that under certain conditions the 737 MAX's engines -- which are larger and located higher and closer to the front -- boost the chances that the aircraft would tilt upward too steeply -- causing the plane to stall.

Yes exactly, it was a deathtrap which never should have been allowed to fly.

Isn’t issue with the engines that the design meant they are not in centre of plane so software has to help with the balance.

This wasn’t a 737 max but one of the older 737-500s I believe. Thats considered a 737 classic and you won’t find many of them in Europe. Yes, the 737 Max was built on an old design. The principal issue is that the engines are much bigger these days and therefore are much closer to the ground. This meant that Boeing had to make changes, some of them software based to manage this. So, to some extent the Max is unstable without the software help.

If we ever get to fly again and if Ryanair is your choice all their planes will be the Max version.

With the max didn’t the problems start from trying to adapt an old design rather than spending the money to build a new plane from scratch?

It's more than teething problems.

Interesting, as th 787 had fast become my aircraft of choice once they sorted out the initial teething problems.
I'd actually assumed they'd just rationalised ground crew and stood the Boeing engineers down during the pandemic.

As far as I understand it, the cause of the two Max crashes was largely the pilots' lack of knowledge and improper handling of the MCAS system, which had allegedly not been properly communicated by Boeing and which the respective airines had not trained their flight crew on. Now, with software adjustments and improved crew training over the last year+, it should be as safe as any other aircraft. That's what they say.

My dads mate is an aeronautical engineer, he said he'd never fly in an 737 max.

Boeing have the blood of many people on their hands, the max should never have been let in the sky.

Could be just normal change of aircraft due to whatever commercial reason. But some 787 aircraft have been found to have "structural issues", which caused Boeing to remove some 787s from service some months ago. They might have been QR or Oman Air planes? Since then, more such issues have been reported, apparently affecting over 800 of the 900+ 787s that have been built. Poor show from Boeing, again.

Was browsing for flights out of Oman recently and the national carrier seems to have switched from Boeing 787s to the older A330 on several routes.

They're saying this plane went from 10,000 feet to impact in about a minute. First reports saying a small debris field, suggesting it hit the water in one piece. Wonder what happened... Those poor people.
