Far from punishing divers, nowadays you have to dive to get a penalty even if you've really been fouled.

Would be good if someone put Moyes comments to Klopp & asked what instructions he gives his players.

Ex reckons Antonio isnt penalty taker, so my guess would be Soucek......he was Slavia Pragues pen taker i think

we might find out before calendar year is out

Moyes was asked about this in today's press conference, and I liked what he had to say.

From BBC website:

Hammers boss David Moyes was asked about his side not receiving any penalties so far this season.

This is what he said in response: "I tell the players to stay on their feet and not go down easily. I like the game to be played correctly.

"Maybe I am wrong and we should be looking to gain but I want us to be an honest team."

I don't like penalties like that given but sure the inconsistency is a joke. And we certainly ain't getting the rub of the green.

Re: 6 of 92 clubs have yet to be awarded a penalty in the league this season
They asked their resident ex referee Peter Walton for his opinion
He was of the view that it was a CLEAR PENALTY but said he was 'glad' VAR hadnt overturned the decision and awarded it.
Gareth Barry looked mystified at that. Understandably

Fifth they showed it on BT in the after match summary, it showed it was comfortably Souceck's foot he caught and agreed it was a mystery why it wasn't given

Re: 6 of 92 clubs have yet to be awarded a penalty in the league this season
100% it would have been either given outright on the pitch if it were a Liverpool or Man U player in the Soucek role, or if not then overturned in favour of a pen by VAR.

This is where the huge problem lies. There's still an inherent bias to give decisions to the big clubs, either immediately, so it's difficult to overturn by VAR citing 'not a clear and obvious error', or VAR itself will overturn things in their favour despite it not actually being a 'clear and obvious error' on replay.

Re: 6 of 92 clubs have yet to be awarded a penalty in the league this season
Part of me reckons it would have been given as a penalty if it was Salah too.

So many wrongly believed that VAR would end the big team bias, when all it's done it ram it into your face more in slow motion.

Re: 6 of 92 clubs have yet to be awarded a penalty in the league this season
I thought he got a toe on the ball prior to making contact with soucek. He may not have done but it wasn't clear or obvious in my view. Having said this, if it was Salah and not Soucek then the ref would have been called to the monitor

Re: 4 of 92 clubs have yet to be awarded a penalty in the league this season
Rossai you're right about hitting the woodwork, we've hit it more than anyone else in the league

Sven yeah stick on pen, very odd why it wasn't given as it was clear and obvious

martyboy 11:53 Wed Jan 20
Re: 6 of 92 clubs have yet to be awarded a penalty in the league this season
And not once did either of the commentator's mention "Contact" of any other crap reason to give a penalty. That was a stonewall pen, and Soucek even asked the ref 30 seconds later what he was doing?? Kane, Sterling, Sala or Vardy would have all screamed, and dropped to the ground, making the ref have to make a call/check.

Re: 6 of 92 clubs have yet to be awarded a penalty in the league this season
gank
If you had been the VAR official looking at the tackle on Soucek what would have been your ruling?

Personally , sending the ref to the screen would have been mine. Looked an obvious penalty.
Any thoughts as to why that didn't happen?

Makes our league position even more impressive

We also seem to have hit the woodwork an awful lot this season
