Agreed with Deano

I wonder how other clubs compare to us in terms of players who have had massive, ability affecting or career ending injuries right at the start of their time with us

Off the top of my head:

Simon Webster
Richard Hall
Faubert (injured in pre season and lost a yard of pace)
Ayew (injured on debut tracking back, hasn’t ever been the same since)
Yarmolenko

Even David james got injured on international duty before making his debut for us! And then taricco died on his debut.

Then you chuck in the likes of lanzini, lomas, Hutchison, obviously Ashton, Dyer (his shattered leg was nothing to do with him being injury prone!) and even poor rufus brevett after we got relegated (and how we needed a left back that season!)

I know every team has their own issues but ours always seem bigger and more ridiculous when it comes to injuries

Fornals and Bowen - those two never stop trying so they are in my first team, although they are both one-footed. Bananarama is tricky, but messes around when a telling pass or a more direct run would be more effective. On his day he can make a difference, but a thinking defender can probably keep him quiet. We need a midfielder who can comfortably pass and shoot with either foot. As someone said, Maddison is the type (but I somehow don't think he'll be tempted to come to the LS).

What Deano said. Those 2 are history, imo.

Snodgrass offered more than lanzini has done for most of this season. It makes me sad seeing him struggle when I think back to 2016 lanzini

If we’re playing a deeper lying two, I’d want fornals benrahma and Bowen behind Antonio

When Arthur is back and we go back to 343, benrahma drops out as Arthur and fornals worked really well together

Re: The midfield conundrum WHO poll?
It looks more obvious with every passing week the Lanzini & Yarmolenko have both had potential career ending injuries. They will never really be up to the pace of the English game.

Unfortunately given the ineptness of the current owners, replacing these two isn't the priority it should be, and there are many other gaps in the squad that need plugging first.

Re: The midfield conundrum WHO poll?
What exactly are we talking about here? Not sure it's strictly just a midfield thing.

Assuming this is on the assumption that Soucek and Rice are the deeper lying two, and Bowen and Antonio are a given as the two front players or right wing/striker, so we're just talking about who should fill the other two non defender positions in the team?

For me Fornals and Benrahma. But there's no harm in rotating with the other two.

Fornals offers workrate and despite some outspoken (sometimes IMO unwarranted) criticism on here can pick a pass and make some intelligent runs.

Benrahma has something none of our other players have- that skill and the ability to beat people and play a circus pass. However, I'm not convinced by him just yet but I see glimpses of a quality player. He really needs to develop some end product for us.

Bowen, Benrahma, Fornals on present form.
Lanzini to come in if form drops or injury.
Yarmolenko as sub to change games when needed.

Agree with Vexed, he just doesn't influence games like he use to, shame, i think that injury hit him when he was showing his best form in a West Ham shirt

Re: The midfield conundrum WHO POLL?
What has anyone seen in Lanzini that makes him worthy of a starting place? The goal against the yids? Anything else? Needs shipping out for both his and the club's sake.

Re: The midfield conundrum WHO POLL?
I wouldn't even consider Yarmelonko, he's a problem off the bench let alone in the team.

For me Bowen is a starter, i'd then have Benrahma on the left and Fornels in the middle.

More because Benrahma works harder than Lanzini, neither of them are playing well.

Re: The midfield conundrum WHO POLL?
Bowen on the right, Fornals in the hole and Benrahma on the left

Lanzini has always been one of my favourite players but he just doesn't seem to have that sparkle anymore and he's had enough game time to show Moyes he can regain it

Re: The midfield conundrum WHO POLL?
Yarmalenko - sell and replace.

Lanzini - sell and replace

Benrahma - Think people were hoping he was our next payet but far from it in my eyes. Takes 10 touches when it needs 3. Hoping he will improve. There is definitely a player in there but not sure it is worth 30 million.

Fornals - He is growing on me. Definitely worth keeping and hopefully his decision making gets better.

Re: The midfield conundrum WHO POLL?
I was thinking this last night, we’ve got plenty of options in attacking midfield/wing positions, but it’s only Bowen that seems to produce. Fornals, Yarmolenko, Benrahma and Lanzini can all be swapped around and I’m not fussed as none have done enough this season to be a guaranteed starter. Rice looks more dangerous running with the ball from deep than any of them do in the final third. We could do with a couple of them to step it up.

Re: The midfield conundrum WHO POLL?
Bowen and Fornals are a given because of their work rate. A fit and firing Lanzini would be my preference but we haven't seen a fit and firing Lanzini for a while sadly. Someone like James Maddison would be the perfect player in this system, someone with creativity but has the work rate as well.

Re: The midfield conundrum WHO POLL?
If we actually sign a quality striker (a mad thought I know), then we can play Antonio as a wide forward with Bowen on the other flank and play neither Lanzini, who is washed up, and Benhrama who is an out of his depth Championship player.

Re: The midfield conundrum WHO POLL?
Bowen is a given. Its the other players that are rotated is the question.
I thought Fornals made a big difference when he came on yesterday and Lanzini doesnt get knocked off the ball or give it away like Bananarama. Or totally one footed like Yarma

For me, has to be Benrahma, Fornals and Bowen.
