Relegation Battle
|
I'm really enjoying it this season as for a change we're well clear.
Sheff Utd, despite playing well, continue to fail to get points. I can't see then surviving. Relegation.
WBA's season will be defined this month with fixtures against fellow strugglers Sheff Utd and Brighton. If they win both, they have a chance. I don't think they will, though Relegation.
The final place in my humble is between Fulham, Brighton and maybe Wolves. I'm going to predict Brighton as they've been very bland this season and Fulham have Lookman, a cracking player and Wolves have Jiminez to return.
Right or not, I shall watch it unfold with great interest and zero stress.

ag, ag.
If we get a result against Fulham, the champers will be flowing in the boardroom and many of us long time suffering fans will breathe that sigh of relief extra early this season. :-)
In the actual relegation battle, you would have to say the bottom three look doomed but Fulham aren't that bad they just don't have many players that can score goals for them. Get a goalscorer and they could make up that large gap although it will still depend on Newcastle or Wolves or someone getting back into freefall mode.

Hopefully we can get a couple of wins in the next two league games to keep both Fulham and Sheffield Utd further adrift.

Second season syndrome doesn’t necessarily mean the team gets relegated, just performs 10 times worse than their previous season.
e.g. West Ham after the cup final season

What odds Southampton ?
200 : 1, with Paddy Power.
Probably get better, if you shop around.

Bottom 3 adrift I don’t see them winning enough games personally

What odds Southampton ?
Dropping the table like a stone, morale must be fucked after the battering last night
Next few games for them
Newcastle away Wolves home Chelsea home

Given that our board are such media whores I strongly suspect that they would prefer us hovering around the relegation zone every season just because of the extra (free) column inches/media minutes talking about us being in that position generates.
Europe and/or a cup run costs (them) too much money and mid-table teams barely get mentioned, let alone commented on.

Westside 12:37 Tue Feb 2 Second season is largely a myth. Of the 85 teams relegated from the Premier League thus far, only 12 were in their second season.
Your statistic suggests it strikes almost every other season, which is quite a high frequency.

If you think we need 5 more points to be safe, why not have a spread bet on relegation points?
For 18th place, the spread is currently 31 - 32.5.
The bookies often make mistakes, but if you are saying we need 40 points, the bookies must be out by 25% in this case.

Sheff Utd's demise has surprised me. The most dramatic 'second season syndrome' in memory.
