John Sissons

remember him as an early favourite of mine but given the limitations of west ham on tv back then and not being old enough to attend games, i didn't see much of him play. i'd be very interested to know opinions of him, both as a player and a hammer.

An amazing youth team player and in a class of his own. In truth, he never really took that forward, as he became a senior player. Always a decent player, he was a bit overshadowed, by the likes of Moore, Hurst, Peters and Byrne.

I knew him quite well. He drank in my dads pub and I went to his wedding. He was the most wanted youth plays in the country and went to West Ham because they were an ageing side and his first choice, Chelsea, were full of young internationals. It worked because he was in the side at 17 and was the youngest player to ever score in a cup final. He was terrific in those first 2/3 years and looked to be a certain international but he never quite reached his potential and although he had a good career he was not the player that we all thought he would become. He lives in South Africa were he finished his career.

I seem to remember him being an inside forward as it was called then and Greenwood moved him out to the wing to protect him. Scored a lovely goal in the 64 cup final.

My favourite player as a kid,my mum made a number 11 out of an old shirt and put it on my first ever West ham shirt...was a great winger for a few years but didn't live up to his potential, think he's lived in South Africa for years.

Haven't watched it for a while but find the '65 ECWC Final on youtube. Watch all the match and I think you will get an idea of what a decent player he was.

The mention of Malcolm Musgrove below jogged my memory of playing against him in Torquay after he retired from playing professionally.
I was about 21, I guess he was mid 40's. Still good though (him not me). We were both left wingers but he played left back that day and was marking me as I played out of position on the right. No goals or assists that day!
