‘I believe’: Mourinho makes risky prediction about West Ham this season

John Verrall

Jose Mourinho has told Tottenham Hotspur’s official Youtube account that he thinks West Ham United will fall down the league by the end of the season.

West Ham are currently sat in fifth spot in the Premier League table, with optimism rising around the London Stadium that they could mount a charge for a Champions League space.

However, Mourinho has seemingly suggested that he can see West Ham’s form tailing off, ahead of Tottenham’s game against David Moyes’s side this weekend.

“They are doing very well. I believe that in the end of the season their position and our position, they are not going to be the same as where we are now,” he said.

“But praise them for what they are doing. Good Premier League teams with one match per week are in an advantageous position compared to all the others.

“They have one week to prepare, one week to rest, less injuries and fatigue. It gives them a much better chance.”

Mourinho’s comments do risk motivating West Ham further before their game at the weekend.

West Ham do indeed go into the clash on Sunday with more rest than Tottenham have been given.

Spurs were in action last night as they beat Wolfsberger AC 4-1 in the Europa League, while Moyes’s side were able to relax at home.

If West Ham do beat Tottenham on Sunday they will move nine points clear of Mourinho’s men, and that gap could prove very difficult for the Lilywhites to make up, if it does form.

Spurs have struggled domestically in recent weeks, and they have slipped all the way down to ninth in the standings as a result.

Not heard that before. I think I’ll start using it.

Since 1st December Spurs have played 4 more games than West Ham. With a larger squad. Significant maybe, but hardly onerous.

Yes Billy, I read his comments, except we haven’t played 3 games a week, have we. On average 2 since the turn of the year. 6 weeks in, 11 matches. But, don’t let the facts get in the way of a good rant at Mourinho.

Who can agree with that twat.

Basically he is saying we are not where we are supposed to be and we will drop off. If spurs did not have to play europa league they would be above us.

Re: Friday newspapers (includes West Ham)
LAF have you actually understood what he's said.. Basically we are 5th because we only play 1 game a week... Which is rubbish all teams are having to play at times 3 games a week including us.

I agree with the point that with our thin squad we would not cope as well as they are with CL football.

Re: Friday newspapers (includes West Ham)
I agree with Mourinho and the best way for his team to benefit from the same advantage is not to get into Europe next year.
hopefully he can achieve that.

Re: Friday newspapers (includes West Ham)
I make him right. What’s he said to argue with? We have a thin squad, fitness worry with our only makeshift striker and have played more that some teams below us. Nothing outlandish about his comments.
